Just noticed I posted in the wrong forum, but answer will probably be the same.

Battery died in the Mrs.' Caddy CTS, probably 4 or 5 years old. Took the battery out to bring it to the parts store and noticed that it physically looks the same as the battery in my Roadmaster Wagon and Cadillac Fleetwood. I took one out of the wagon, installed and she started right up.

I did notice that the CTS area near the battery is pretty cramped, but there is room. I measured the batteries and there is 3/4 of an inch difference in height; everything else is the same. Because the CTS battery is an odd ball it is 75 to 100 dollars more.

So, wondering is there any reason I can't use the cheaper wagon battery. Also, the wagon battery has more cranking amps.

thanks

Tom

You can really use any battery you want, as long as you can fit it in, hook it up and it has the minimum cold cranking amps.

Thanks Number4. Now I realized I got the wrong car posted. I have fixed, it is my wife's Caddy CTS, not my Aviator.

But your answer still applies.

thank you

Tom

I was wondering, I thought GM's were all side posts.

Common batteries are the 75 and 78 series for GMs. Most cars that take the 75 series, will accommodate the 78.

The four GM's that I have are side posted. You may have missed it, but I edited, realizing that I wrote my Aviator rather than Caddy CTS.

thanks

Tom

@silverfox One thing to watch out for is hood clearance. Batteries sometimes are left loose (worst thing possible) or not tightened down securely, a dip or bump, and the battery positive post shorts out against the underside of the hood!

Really! I saw it happen! imp

Thanks Imp!

It is secured tight. There is not much clearance, but there is clearance.

I keep my eye on it.
