Has happened multiple times, 3 batteries later (original one from dealer, 2 from autozone) and notification keeps popping up. Battery and alternator at 100% when they run it at autozone. Nothing plugged in. Drive my car basically everyday to recharge. What is going on?

Has the BMS been reset?

Try resetting BMS.

You might want to also dig into old service bulletins and see if your vehicle needs a software update. Some of the old module software was associated with battery drain issues when parked. This only really applied to early build vehicles, so not sure if a 21 would fall into that category or not.

The BMS will automatically reset with new battery after several restart and drive cycles.

The BMS unit may need to be replaced. Mine faulted the battery even though it would start the car. 12.1 or 12.2v instead of 12.4 minimum it wants. I'd just reset it for over a year and a half until the battery actually was dead. Picked up a wally world special and it's been fine now going on a year.

If you have to have the auto start stop. Check battery voltage level for the minimum. If good replace the BMS unit. It's right there on the battery. Or reset it it every time it won't activate system.

The type of battery that's used in the cars now is not the same as units from over 20 years ago. Old lead acid units would last several years if kept clean and maintained.

Newer AGM (absorbed glass mat) which is what is used in the explorer. Only has a working life of a couple years. Had a guy at interstate explain it to me when I brought in a 15 year old factory lead-acid unit from a 350z. It's a garage queen that I keep on a battery tender through the year.

Best battery to get would be an optima. Autozone shows a yellow top that would work. If it was me I'd buy the cheapest there is and readily available everywhere. So if your out of town you can still get it exchanged, without worrying about availability.

I don't agree about the battery's only being good for a couple years. My 2020 Explorer that was built 11/1919 still has the original battery and it is working fine. I have reset the BMS a couple times but I would say being close to 6 years old The guy at
Interstate is in the business of selling battery's so what would you expect him to say.

I'd have to say your the exception then. The battery in our 2021 explorer started acting up a year and a half in. By three years it was done.
On the interstate guys comment, it's what he said he sees. I only use them for a blem or to get something odd for work equipment.

He was not upselling me. As it's a business account that I use. Not a walk up.

On one other viechle I own that uses an agm. It doesn't have autostart and the factory unit went 9 years. Still on second battery.

Another thing though these batteries per say aren't bad. They just won't hold voltage that the car wants to see. Which by standard of operation, makes it a bad unit. I don't feel the set parameters are right for the system.
