Baxter State Park Meet

If anything, we should get a couple Cabins. One cabin will not be enough room for all the people going.

Yeah well I recommend we get a cabin. I'm sure there will be more than 4 of us going, so splitting the $75/night fee won't be too bad. Plus we would have access to gaslights and firewood which are included in cabin fee. That is if people don't have a problem bunking with the opposite sex for a couple of days. I don't know when the next long weekend is for everyone if we do like Dan suggests. Daicey & Kidney Pond Campground are the only ones that have the cabins

Well who has decided on going? It states cabins can hold 4+ people. I mean as long as we are cool with the cabin idea we can decided how many we need after we get a tally. Sound like a plan?!?

I'm down for it too, but I'm with Ike, what's the fees?? I don't know too much in ways of the New England area so I would need a very detailed route.
Um, drive up I-95 starting at sunrise stopping only for fuel and maybe a quick bite. When the sun sets, you'll be up in Maine someplace....take exit 244 (they're now mileage-based exit numbers), follow route 157 to Millinocket and take a right in town wherever there's a "Baxter State Park" sign. :p:

:wtf: dork

And we possibl;ey have 5 people going. Plus the guy over here in Underhill Vt might be interested

So far that only warrants one cabin. Unless you guys really don't want to share a cabin with us woman folk!?!?

I might be interested what days are you guys thinking of doin it? During or after winter?

Ok I just got directions & from my house in Manchester CT it states:
Total Est. Time: 7 hours, 53 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 431.85 miles

So If someone is willing to ride w/me & share gas $ I'm all for it!!! Plus me in the car alone for that time I'm likely to be a little looney & got bored w/all my cds!!!

Keeping big oil in business!

OUCH! Based on a 365 mile trip, with fuel at $2.50/gallon at an average of 20 mpg... Don't be surprised to pay $120 for the round trip, plus driving trails at 15 - 20 mph.

But, silly me, you guys already know this. Matt and I do, that's for sure.

HARHARHAR!!!

- Dan

P.S. did I mention my car can do 350 miles on 12 gallons? No? not interested in that? oops, my bad..... :D

20mpg.... I'm lucky if a break 14mpg.. that is with a tail wind going downhill..:D

I can't fly off a cliff doing better than 13 mpg........

Well people I believe we should stock up on gas while we are there. I have a few gas cans I can bring. Anyone else wanna pitch in?? So that way all of us V6'rs can keep going. (the V8's can fend for themselves!!!!) lol

I'd still like to know what to expect when we get there.. I've read the info, but what kid of trails are there, how long are these trails, and do cars attempt them as well... I'm inquisitive like that..

The trails are your basic, very narrow, dirt roads with some exceptions. There are some off road trails north east of the park. These are public accessible trails with some boulders and plenty of mudding. My car was able to take a couple, but it was REALLY hairy.

Matt says he get's 20mpg. That's what I based it on.

Matt won't drive there......It sounds fun :)

Would have been more fun had the Saturn been tricked out with 4 wheel drive, jacked, and had a descent set of mudders. lol

Dan, Thanks for the info, its good stuff to know

Most stock Explorer's do get around 20mpg.. But when you start adding big tires and a lift it starts dropping.. I get decent city mileage, but the explorer isn't known for its cutting edge wind tunnel scores. :D

I'll ride with you and share gas expenses, I don't want to drive alone either, and since I don't plan wheeling my truck, best I leave her home.

As far as a date, how about Memorial Day weekend? Most of us don't work that day anyway, and I could get the Friday before as a personal day since it's the slowest day of the week for me.

Any other time I can't take Monday off, since I'm in charge of filing the payroll.

When is Memorial Day? The 28th? It's possible, but I'm also taking a chunk off in the middle of the month for a trip to a car show in Indy.
