How hard is it to replace the fanbelt on a 98 SOHC ? Mine looks pretty bad and I've never changed it before. Just wanted to know if there is anything tricky about it.

On a scale of 1-10, the fan belt is about a half. Release the tension, slip the belt off, pop the new one on, and you're done.

It's easiest to leave the water pump pulley for last. The pulley is rounded and the back side of the belt is smooth, and it'll be a little bit shorter only because the old one is stretched-out with time. It also sometimes helps to use a little bit of something wet (hairspray) on the water pump pulley to help it slip across.

Just make sure you have the routing diagram of how the belt goes on.

it's not hard at all. Just make sure all the grooves on the belt are lined up correctly

replace the idler and tensioner at the same time.the tensioner has about the same life as the belt.ask me how i now know this.
