What is the best alternator for a 5.0 explorer? I am thinking about going with a high output one as I intend to install a stereo system. I am actually looking at one from DB electrical.

Do what I did:

(A) Search the archives and

(B) Follow this thread that Dan Whitaker started some time ago (and updated recently via my quest for a new alternator).

FWIW, DB Electrical are a good value. I almost went that route. I learned later that a lot of their components are "cheap" compared to others, so you sort of get what you pay for. However, they seem to stand behind their products.

i'd recommen Ohio Generator. But there are a ton of companies out there. just read and do research on each company is the best advice i can tell you. i have had great experiences with Ohio Gen, so i highly recommend them.

I had a DB Electrical I purchased from them off eBay.
unfortunately I did not install it right away.

When I did get around to installing it, the battery gauge on my dash was all over the place.
After having issues with it, I went to disconnect the power wire from the top post; twisted the stud in half.

took it to a local repair shop, they said it would cost $200 to repair it.

I threw it in the trash.

Not saying this is the norm, but this was my experience with a DB Electrical alternator.

Now, could/would DB Electrical have helped me out? Possibly; but I had lost my receipt and it had been probably around a year or so since I had purchased it, so I didn't even try.

Moral? Don't let it sit for a year and make sure you keep the receipt! :
