Best choice for COP

It's been a while since I had to do a set of COPs on a Triton, and I'm wondering what people are liking these days. Prices range from $30 a set to $400 a set on a V-8, and I'm a little skeptical about the cheap one, but don't want to break the bank unnecessarily. Who's bought some recently and had good results? Thanks

So not to recommend trash parts but, I put these on a 4.6 they were the 30 dollar set they also work for the 5.4 I have had them for over a year now I would get the Motorcraft ones but they are 30 dollars EACH as opposed to 30 dolls a set of 8 and I haven't had a single misfire since i've owned these china ones. Also went ahead and added some Chinese fuel injectors car runs very smooth I don't recommend either of those but they do work.

Thanks very much for your input. This F250 5.4 doesn't belong to me, but the guy who owns it put a $30 set in about a year ago, and now he's back where he was, misfiring. He thinks the cheap ones got him and now is willing to invest more in a "quality" set. And of course it could be another issue entirely. He asked my advice, and that's why I posted to this knowledgeable group for theirs. I used Motocraft when I did my own 4.6 some years ago. There are brands like JEGS and Accel that are much pricier, but they could easily be chinese manufacture also. Thanks again for the response.
 






I use Motorcraft if I replace one coil. Are you sure you need an entire set? It might make more sense to narrow it down, you may just have to replace one that has gone early.

If I was doing a whole set, I would probably use NGK which cost about $8 less per coil. NGK also sells kits of 8 which cost less than $20 each when you get them that way. That would save about $100 over the set of 8. That is based on the costs for my 2002 4.6L, so you would have to check for the specific vehicle.

I believe that Delphi coils are also considered to be very good but I have never used them. They are about halfway in price between Motorcraft and NGK. Denso are about the same cost as Delphi. Both show up in list of the best coils on a fairly regular basis. Denso and Delphi probably sell kits of 8 as well.

Use a site like RockAuto to look for the part numbers of the coils you are interested in (Motorcraft, Denso, Delphi, NGK, others, etc). Then you can use google or amazon to look for 8-packs of the same part number if they don't list an 8-pack on RockAuto. If you need to do all of them, it will always cost less to buy them as a set.

I ended up going with Blue Streak, $150 for the set, and when I tried getting out the old ones, I found that on 7 of 8, the boots stayed behind and had to be extracted in chunks with much lubrication and cursing. The ones that I took out were the ECCPP units, and although I'm not willing to trash them for this, it makes me wonder if when installing these or any brand if the rubber boots should not be lubed, with grease or dielectric grease maybe? I'm sure there's a procedure in a manual somewhere that shows whether this is advisable? I did lightly grease the new ones when I installed them. Anyone know for sure what the proper procedure is? Getting the pieces out of the back holes was a huge pia!

F150 forum someone said Denso has been manufacturing Motorcraft since 2017. I’ve replaced two with Denso, One 2 years ago, another 6 months ago. No problems so far.
 






I've been trying to join the 150 forum for 2 weeks and can't get them to send me the confirmation email, and can't get a reply from their webmaster. The Densos are nearly as pricey as the motos and the ngks, so tested the middle ground with the blue streak. we shall see.
 






I always use some dielectric grease on the boots when I change out the plugs. I put a little blob in the end of the boot and wipe it around the rim with a small flat-head screwdriver. I turn the boot back and forth some while pressing it down over the plug. This makes a watertight seal. I assume that it also makes it easier to get the boot off but I do it for the seal to prevent corrosion.

Makes sense to me. I used marine grease, like I would have used on a spark plug boot on an outboard engine.
 






Some people put a bit on the electrical connector as well.
