Best Highway Shocks?

Hi guys, I did a search and found mostly off-road recommendations. My 2000 Sport is strictly a highway cruiser. Over the last year or so, the shocks seem to have worn out completely, with only about 65K miles on them.

What's a good shock choice for my application? I've heard good things about the Ranchos and Edlebrocks, but they're expensive, and I don't need the adjustability. Maybe ProComps.....???

Tou didn't talk to me! I had em, hated em, got rid of em.

They were the worst riding shocks I have ever owned; however, they handled well.

I replaced them with Rancho 9000 x shocks and couldn't be happier.

OK, I ordered a set of Rancho 5000's last night. They're advertised as being the biggest selling truck shock in the known universe, so we'll see......

Summit has a deal on ProComps, buy three and get one free, at about $34 each. I started to go with those because of the pricing, but chose the Ranchos instead, partly because of Aldive's good results with Ranchos.

The 5000's are great; their only drawback is they do not have the adjust ability of the 9000;s. Further, it may be a feature that you don't need anyway.

Be sure to post your opinions on the 5000's.

highway shocks

Highway or Off road the X is notorious for wallowing in turns and over bumps.

I owned three S10 blazers before buying an X and must say they all handled much better. The last blazer did come stock with Bilsteins.

In my opinion, a stiff shock is needed regardless of use for the X to stop the wallowing problem. I replaced my OEM shocks at 50,000 miles with Rancho 9000x and have them adjusted to level 7 for highway use, which is stiff but takes the wallowing away.

At the time of purchase, Sears had them on sell and Monroe had a rebate program, so they ended up costing $60 each, installed. Plus, I also received the remote control system free. So keep an eye on Sears for sales.

I think you will be pleased with your choice of using Rancho 5000's.

Thanks Al, this gives me more confidence in choosing the Ranchos. I was trying to find a quality shock that wouldn't break my wallet. I may install them Saturday if they arrive in time, and will post back the results.

Thanks Bob, that's two votes for the Ranchos. I actually considered the Bilsteins too, but heard that they wore out relatively fast.

My Sport actually handles pretty good now, after installing an EE sway bar in the rear, and poly sway bar bushings in the front. I'm hoping the Ranchos will complete the package, along with some new tires later on.....

The Ranchos are great. The difference was like night and day, compared to the worn-out stock shocks. And this was with only the front ones changed. The Sport feels much more solid and stable now. It's not a rough ride at all, just firmer, and I'd recommend these shocks to anyone.

Those old shocks were a bear to get off. The top nuts finally broke loose, but rather than spinning off, they twisted the shock shaft in two. Both sides did the same.

The Ranchos look to be much, much better than stock. Guess I'll go ahead and order a set for the rear......

The Rancho shocks handel just as good as yjr Rdelbrocks. Don't know where you will get the best price, sorry.
