I've been doing some searching, and figured I'd just ask the question to get your opinions.

My OME shocks are kinda getting tired and I'm starting to look for replacements. Looking at the rear I'm seeing some surface rust on the cross memeber, and was wondering if any one's actually had this piece fail, and had a custom tubular, or rectangular piece fitted in there instead. My real rust issue is that stupid tray that holds the vapor return stuff. That's gonna just fall out some time soon!

Any way, onto my real question:

What are the best replacements for a 2" suspension lift, 3" body lift, 33" tires, and it's used pretty much as a non hi-way vehicle. Mostly off road, but some road to various wheeling, camping, hunting, fishing, etc. I'm not looking to replace torsion bars, or any other crazy thing, but are there coilovers that may be installed along w/ the torsion bars? Air/Nitrogen shocks? External reserviors?

What do I need? Price is a factor, but for now, lets say the sky's the limit, and I'll narrow down the field later!

Thanx again for all your responses! I want lots of opinions so I can make a well informed decision!

...Not the greatest but I run the Procomp shocks...

...They have a few models and I want to say I run the ES3000 or the ES9000......I like my shocks a little on the firm side for both the X and the ranger when offroading and driving to the trails...Neither of my trucks like the whoops sections but they won't lay right over and they don't suffer from spring rebound...

...I tend to go thru a few shocks when shopping for the right ride and response per each vehicle...These are fairly inexpensive and can be found @ http://4wheelparts.com ..I like to keep an eye on their sales as they go on sale, and also sold as buy 3 get one free often...

...If you go into one of their stores, I would tell them you want 3" over stock size...They will know what you need and can easily look it up and reference them...;)

...BTW, They do honor their free lifetime replacement warranty at their stores...

...I hope this helps some...

I have Bilstien 5100s on my Ranger 31s (level II stock) and my 91 Explorer 33s (5.5-inch superlift). I am very satisfied, and both trucks see a lot of time offroad. They cost a little more, but they are monotube and have a lifetime warrenty.

Thanx, 'Meat!

BILSTEIN 5150

WOW nice shocks

We put them on the wifes 07 FJ cruiser, for the $$$ I would pay a little extra and get the bilsteins, what a ride!!

What's the diff between 5100 and5150? Price too?

Another vote for the Bilsteins.

5100's are about the same as their common HD-series shocks, but for lifted applications.
They cost about the same as the HD, too.

5150's have a fixed crossflow reservoir and an adjustable shock mount, with a split valve design. Basically they're really trick shocks. Cost is somewhat high, maybe twice what the 5100's go for.

You could run the 5100's for a lifted ranger on the front, and use the stock Bilstein HDs for the rear, especially with lifted lower shock mounts/skid plates. You could probably get away with running HDs all around with just a 2" lift, too.

bilstiens for sure

I have the superlift ones on the rear of my X. just need to get shocks for the front next.

I just bought KYB GR-2's from a local place for $77+tax for all 4 (since it was buy 3 get 1 free) and they feel much better than the stock shocks and for the price you cannot argue!

I know members use to like the rancho 9000 shocks alot but not sure if thats still true. Might want to check them out as well.
