What are the best brake pads? I certainly want good stopping and would like no/low dust,no noise, and something easy on the rotors. My son's 97 4wd XLT always has a brown sheen on his front wheels, but my 99 2wd XLS never does. I don't know what pads mine are, his are Bendix Titaniums. The guy at Advance recommends ceramic. What do you suggest? I don't want to give up stopping and don't want something that is going to wear out the rotors just to save an occasional cleaning. TIA

I use ceramic. Minimal dust.

I will also be switching over to Hawk Pads.

The best pads generally are not sold at local auto parts stores. Those pads do have warantees, but that is not an indication of their quality. In my opinion all of the parts store pads are cheap and will have issues(noise, wear, dust, rotor wear, etc).

If pads are needed fast then go straight to the car dealer, the OEM pads are near the top in quality. The best pads generally can only be bought throgh big mail order businesses, not locally. Call Summitt for good examples.

I like EBC and Hawk, others swear by Okibono I think, Raybestos is very good if you can get their special stuff, not the local store versions.

No matter what though, bleed out the old brake fluid with new fluid. Good luck,

the ceramic ones from autozone work great, lifetime warranty too!

I tried many of those cheap pads for years(1991-1998) and I got tired of changing pads, plus turning rotors, regularly, free or not it gets old. 20,000 miles is the most that any lasted for me. Those Performance Frictions did fine twice, then somthing changed, becuase they began squealing badly and only went 10-12000 miles, twice. The pads at local stores change quality rapidly, the low prices drive the quality down, it is very random. Skip the risk with brakes, spend the good money on quality pads and brake fluid. They last longer, don't squeal or create too much dust. Regards,

ive tried just about every pad on quite a few different cars over the years and still have to say that hawk are some of the best you can buy. And if you have a local Pep-boys they have them in stock. Go with the Hawk you will not regret it.

I've only used the good Raybestos pads, have never heard of Hawk? Are they an American product ? Are they available in Canada? Any of you Canucks know ??

i too am going to switch to hawk i havent heard anything bad about them

Im not sure where they are made. But im sure you can order them online and have them shipped to canada.

I just replaced with brembo rotors and hawk lts pads. So far it's great.

PS-if you let the brake fluid out of the reservoir while bleeding....you are likely in for a tow to get a pressure bleed of the master cylinder ($80 extra bucks at the dealer).
