Where is the most RELIABLE place to get the K&N FIPK online? Summit? TruckPerformance.com? I wish I could buy it locally, but nobody seems to stock it or is able to order it. fooey.

Do you feel a big difference with the K&N FIPK? Is there really an increase in hp and torque? Does it fit exactly into the explorer or does it require any alterations to make it fit? thanks:)

what exatually do i order? the product # is what i need. or a page w/ that only on it.

Yup... same part number as my 96. 95-97 appear to be the same FIPK. I ordered mine from Summit. Should arrive in a week or so.

I put one in my 99 SOHC Sport about a month ago and no alterations are needed. The hardest thing was removing the old Explorer air filter box. Was there a big increase in HP and torque....well, there was an improvement but here at 6,000 feet I don't get the full effect. I leave for a trip to Wisconsin in two days so I'll see how it runs there. The dino chart that came with mine (57-2528) lists a 5 HP gain at 4100 rpm going to a 5.6 HP gain at 5300 rpm. It does accelerate quicker, sounds nice, and I got 22.5 mpg coming back from Moab a couple of weeks ago with a full load of camping gear.

How often and long do you drive at 5300 RPMs?

Not worth the $200+ for 5 hp. Not really noticable either except for the nosie it makes.

Id go headers or exhaust much more bang for your buck

my .02

I had the exhaust done first, and noticed a little difference. After the FIPK, I noticed a little better performance. I think the two make a good match. I dont care too much about sound, but it seems to be getting somewhat better MPGs. The big suprise came at 55 MPH and I hit WOT. I can actually pass grandma without waiting for a tailwind.

BTW, I ordered my FIPK online from Summit at 9pm last Friday night, UPS delivered it on Wednesday. Not bad at all!
