I just recent bought a 96 XLT...I plan on making a lot of changes to the truck including lifting it...I'm a mechanic but I don't really know much about the proper way to lift a truck..I thinking I might want to put 31" tires on...any suggestions on the best way to go about it??

grab a floorjack.. now its lifted.. sorry I've been drinking tonight.

Easiest cheapest is to do what is called a torsion twist on here that'll raise the front about 1-2 inches. For the back you can add a set of add a leafs or shackles. There is plenty of discussion on here regarding them both.. Just do a search.

Put the 31s on, then decide if you need lift. No sense in the extra work and expense just to fit 31s. I've seen 32s with no lift.

I run 245/75R16s... no lift required. Of course, I wish that I would have put on 265/75R16s (but then again, I need to remind me that this is a DRIVER on not a WHEELER like my previous TJ).

These would have fit without any mods... I did the TT, 4 door rear springs, and the Warrior lift shackles. So I have about "1.5 inches" of lift, give or take. 30s, 31s, or 32s are a non-issue.

31s no lift/1-2" depending on how much its sagged

1-2" lift is torsion twist and rear shackles

after that its a 3" body to fit up to 33s
