You need to find some of the other posts reguarding the tire sizes and print them out for your Dad or just have him look at the posts himself. It seems that a lot of others have put that size on w/ no problems. If you really want them, then just convince him w/ what others have done.

Good Luck & hope you can get 'em!!!!

I wouldn't work. He is very stubborn. I think it's because he drinks alot. If he's not drinking he is not so stubborn. But, he's always drinking so unless I get him right when he wakes up then he wouldn't go for it. Even if he did when he was sober, then when he gets to drinking he would complain about them and threaten to have them took off and have the orginal ize put on them. HE did that with the dueler A/T's because hke said they were too loud. HE was going to take them off and put some goodyear eagle srteet tires on them. SO, will I have to order the tires from a dealer?

Hi James,
A picture is worth a thousand words.
This is my 97XLT with 31X10.5 R15 BFG A/T's.
No rubbing at all even at full compression and at full turn, left and right!
Hope this helps. Dead Link Removed

I have a 95 explorer sport. Came with 235/75/15 tires on it.
My dad wants to get 30 by 9.50's again for my truck whenever the tires wear out. I am trying to talk him into getting 31 by 10.50's. But the people at the tire store have covencied him that they will not fit. BEcause of the width. SO my question is does anybody make a 31 by 9.50 tire. I might be able to talk him into getting those instead. He also said that the dueler A/T/ tires are too loud and that he's going to get somthing like what came off it factory. Something like a all purpose tire. Are there any of those in that size. Do they make the dueler APT tires anymore. OR is there a better APT tire out there?

Hey Ray,

What gears are you running with the 31's?

And what size did you go from before?

I just want to know if there were any noticeable performance differences between the old and new sizes.

I am thinking of going from stock 255/70R16 to 265/70R16. Anyone else done this?

Thanks,
BK

Hi James-I have a 91XLT with 31's on the stock suspension. I believe if they work on mine your next generation '95 shouldn't have a problem. If your Dad wants quiet and you want larger tires, may I suggest BFG Long Trails. I was running Bridgstone Duelers prior to these and these are so smooth and quiet. If you are not planning on doing any hardcore offroading, these might be the ticket. These will perform well on modest offroad trips. I paid $93 for them at Sam's Club which also comes with free balancing and rotation for the life of the tire plus a 40,000 mile warranty.

Hi BK,
I have 3.55:1 gears and had stock tires before going to the 31X10.5 R15's. It didn't seem to make much differance with the SOHC. It did make a differance with my OHV 95, and I had 3.73:1 gears on that one. Fortunately adding a K&N to the 95 brought it back up. Dead Link Removed

Hey Meaty Crab
I went to the 255/70R16's on my '91 qand love them. they're wide, give the truck a nice lift, and look awesome. I was a little ocncerned about clearances when I first did it, but had no problems. I have about 1/4" at the closest areas at full turn.
Let me know if you want to see a pic.

James,
Try 265/75/15's, they are approximately the size of a 31"x 9.50 wide. Happy exploring.

265 75/15's are exactly a 31x10.5 metric equivalent. They are not 9.5" wide, 265 mm = 10.4", ....hope this helps...

Cheers

Dale
