If i put bigger shocks on, like 2-3 inches bigger, will that give you lift? If so, would by doing that require any other modifications? What would the part number be for any particular shocks that ya'll have used to do this?

No. Shocks are meant to dampen movement of the suspension. Springs/tires are what decide ride height.

SHOCKS do NOT make LIFT! Add a leaf in the back leafsprings (or do it right and have them recurved and/or buy new) REMEMBER when you change the distance from the axle to frame then you have to add-length-to or remove your sway bars. Also watch that you dont have to change any brakelines..... MOSTLY, shocks don't add height.

MOSTLY, shocks don't add height.

Shocks never give lift. I've seen quite a few people over the last few weeks asking about this, and some wishy-washy answers.

Air shocks will give you lift but, it's only recommended for the rear.

For the most part, that's for leveling the truck out and taking off all that load off the springs when towing something heavy.. I don't think the ride would be too comfortable but I can't say for sure.

The ride is actually good. I've got them on mine.

from past experiance... dont use air shocks in the rear... i did it and it was good for about a year and a half and then they got a hole in it... replaced them and went muddin and a rock came up and popped them!!!

Yea I do not go off-roading with my mounty. It's a street vehicle. I do tow a mid-sized trailer though from time to time and it helps with the weight. No sagging.

Best solution less than +/-$100

BEST IDEA ABOUT RIDE HEIGHT-
(1)buy leaf springs from a junk yard.
(2)have recurved at a spring/machine shop.
Tell them you want more curve; about 2 inches higher than stock.
(3)Install/replace yours on your Explorer.
(4)You can add extended shackles

*Buy 36"x1/4"x2"steel bar stock at Lowes or HomeDepot-cut 4x9";
drill 5/8" holes centered 1 1/8" from ends
and buy 1"x1"-.125 sidewall box tubing-cut&weld to make H with 1/4" bars)

- Do this with 2" rise in torsion bar adjustment. you'll be good to go! -

**NEED TO MAKE DROP-DOWN BRACKETS OR REMOVE YOUR SWAY BARS.
THEY WERE MADE FOR x-LENGTH FROM FRAME TO SUSPENSION.

***since you just strengthened your suspension, if you drive responsibly/cautiously you can remove sway bars.
(very responsibly/cautiously; this is my disclaimer)
