are the plugs black but dry? any wet cylinders?

no their dry...was thinking too rich a mix

yeah, i just wanted to make sure you didn't have any blow-by.
it sounds like you are waaay rich, but why is the question.....

how could I go about fixing the prob or better yet finding out what is causing it

i would check the rest of your air system, intake, iac, everything involved in getting air to the cylinder. i wish i could say more, perhaps the engine gurus will step in now......

...the fuel pressure regulator may be bad...have you tried to read the codes??? search for koeo, it will show you how to do this and i believe also the koer test also...or just go to the parts store for twenty bucks and pick up a haynes or chilton's manual...;)

this has racked my brain...ok..thanks for the help & advice

hey, the thread title is black smoke. is the truck smoking when it runs?

yea tryed doing that today...was looking the meanings up now if I got the codes right....13,26,327....but not sure

yea running or idle at the end of the t.p on the ground looks like a bunch of black soot..best way to describe it

ok, so the exhaust is spitting out a lot of crap, but not really blowing out black smoke clouds? sounds like you might just need cleaning! seafoam baby!

...i would start checking some connections...:D

...13=rpm not within self test lower limit
...26=mass air flow sensor out of range...
...327= egr valve pressure transducer/position sensor circuit below minimum voltage

i think those problems could all be caused by gummed up parts, don't you agree tbars?

ok thanks I'll try that....yea it is putting out smoke & if you goose it while idling it just about looks like its on fire

...i'm thinking there is something unplugged or a broke connector in the engine compartment...

...that is the only time i've seen a vehicle run with that much black smoke....it seems like everything else is compensating for the problem...but thats just my thinking...it's hard not to have hands on to see the problem...i'm not that good yet, lol...:D

yeah me either. don't give up hotshot, in the next day or two, someone more knowledgeable will see this thread and have a better answer for you, i'm sure of it....

...i would definately check the electical around the egr....was this running this way the day you bought it???

ok thanks guys....yea I'm not much acct on these f.i. engines to much stuff on them.....yea bought it for $400 so figured I couldn't pass it up...body's in great shape & far as I can tell thats the only think wrong with it
