'97 EB 4WD
First of, I would like to say hello. I'm new to forum from Jersey. Over the the summer I bought a '97 EB 4WD. The truck had a little over 100,000 miles on it. The A/C doesn't work...The guy I bought the truck from said his mechanic told him a hose was leaking and needs to be replaced. Now the winter is here I've noticed when I stop for a light the vents start blowing out cold air. Needless to say I started looking for an answer on the web which led me to the forum..I found that some people have a similar problem to mine and the blend door fix helped solve the situation. I came across a you tube video. The YouTube video link below is for a video showing the installation of the HeaterTreater blend door repair into the plenum box used on the Explorer from 96-01.

I don't know if it will solve my heat/ac problem, but I think it's a very good starting point along with the hose replacement. I also don't know if the video's been posted here already.

welcome great first post...

I don't think you have a blend door issue, as whats happening to you isn't really a symptom of that. Check the heater core water flow control valve. Make sure it's opening all the way. It sounds like your having a water flow issue rather then a blend door issue. Is your cooling system completely full? Make sure the tank and actual radiator are completely full. Remove the radiator cap and check the level. A faulty cap may let fluid out, but not back in. The result is air in your system and an incorrect water level.

The blend door failure usually results in only full on hot heat with no temperature control.

First of, I have no idea what a heater core water flow control valve looks like. Lets just say me and the mechanically inclined don't run on the same team:D As I said before I was told there is hose leak in the a/c system, so I'm assuming that system is not full. I checked the radiator; it's full. The reservoir was not, so I topped it off. I just want to add this is not my every day use vehicle. I really don't need the truck to be running at full speed until the spring. Bought the truck primarily to haul my motocycle to trackdays..As you guys well know the fun doesn't start until springtime:)
