Has anyone used anything to make an older car have bluetooth integration? I was looking at some of the aftermarket DVD navigation systems, and it looks like they claim to have a speakerphone over bluetooth. But the microphone is in the reciever? Has anyone had any experience with these? I have a 98 Mountaineer.

Yeah i have an aftermarket System with bluetooth it comes with a wired mic u put up near your visor

What system is it? Does it work well? Does it integrate with the car speakers? How hard was it to install?

Some have the mic on the faceplate of the headunit, and some like mentioned above, have a small clip/box you mount on the visor, dash, etc anywhere near you that has the mic.

Its very easy to install, nothing fancy for the bluetooth besides running the extra wire to your visor which is easy as pie.

How well does the mic work on the headunit ones?

I have my mic mounted in the pocket, but I have a single-din deck. No one has complained about quality yet and most decks will let you adjust the mic gain levels and noise cancellation.

Ive heard (Been talked to lol) from both, and they both sound the same, I think the headunit ones probably are a little more sensitive, since theyre farther away.

I personally would rather have the built in one like that, because I think alot of the "external" mics look very tacky, gaudy and cheaply built. (The ones for some of the new Dual headunits are literally like the size of your fist!

I have the avh-p3100 DVD with the bluetooth kit it works really well

I have a Pioneer Z3 I'm very happy with...finally.

I am running a Blaupunkt Hamburg indash...

with the microphone mounted on the drivers visor... My phone syncs up to the radio as soon as the radio is turned on and the audio is muted and the telephone audio comes through the speakers in the truck...

According to others the audio from the mic is as clear as talking to someone on a landline...

@ranger7ltr What model do you have?

I am getting ready to add the bluetooth kit to my Panasonic in dash dvd system. I was thinking of mounting the mic in the center dash vents. If not the sun visor will have to do.

@rkalb I am looking at the avh-p3100 on Amazon right now. It seems reasonably priced. What bluetooth kit did you use, it doesn't appear to be equiped with it at purchase. Can I control the phone from the head unit?

I am running the Hamburg MP57...

@ranger7ltr What model do you have?

It has bluetooth built-in as well as mp3/WMA file player and it will play CD/CD-R/CD-RW disks...I also looked at the Pioneer FH-P8000BT... It is a double din unit and it also has bluetooth built-in...

I am using the Pioneer AVIC-U310BT system. The Bluetooth on it is working really well for me. I have had a couple other decks with Bluetooth and this one is by far the best. I paid $250 shipped new on eBay for it. The only cons I have with this unit is that you have to purchase and SD card with more POI's for the navigation and that there are only 4 outputs. I am running all 4 speakers off the front outputs from the deck and the Sub is run off one of the rear outputs. Other then that I have been really pleased with this unit.

I've got a bluetooth rear view mirror that most people think came with the truck. Everything is self contained within the mirror (mic, speaker, call display, battery etc). It has a FM transmitter if you'd rather send the audio to your stereo. It also has a detachable ear-piece for privacy when you need it. All in all, a great product. My only gripe is that the speaker could be louder, especially when you're on the road and talking to people who are naturally soft speakers. I've seen a model with two speakers which might be louder but I just soldered some external speakers to mine and they're plenty loud.

You can find these at http://www.dealextreme.com with free shipping to boot.

That looks awesome. The only thing I wonder is... my automatic headlights are controlled through my mirror. Would I lose my automatic headlights? I dont even know how to turn them on. :) It's all automatic and ****. ;)

I would think that if the sensor is on the backside of the mirror (that is, the side facing the windshield) there shouldn't be a problem. But never having seen one I can't say for sure.

There are a couple drawbacks. If there are any controls on the front of your stock mirror you will not be able to use them. You will also not be able to use the manual dimmer flip down switch. I only have the flip switch on mine and never really used it anyway so I didn't mind.
