curios if you guys can help me out... i have a 97 exploder sport and would like to have the newer liftgate without the twist handle. will it fit? also i was curious if aviator or 02 and up front clips would fit. forgive my ignorance but im still fairly new to the site and only get on here at work. (where i am now)


what exactly seperates the generations?

The rear hatch of a 98-00 sport or 98-01 four door should fit, but you will need new taillights cause the newer style hatch has more curve to it.

the rear fenders will also need t obe reworked to accept the new tail lights.. the new aviator clip can probably be made t ofit, however the body styles are way different and a lot of custom fab would be needed... also the lines dont line up, so i really dont see the point in trying... now you could do a swap to liek a 2001 mountaineer, but hte aviator is a way differnt body style

actually the rear is called a quarter panel not a fender

You might want to begin with fitting the taillights first... tailgate should fit with no problems. Then you'll need to also add some extra wires going into the liftgate (for license light). Try taillights first though.

Use the later tailgat, entirely. Add the license plate wire between the bumper, and the wiring going into the hatch.
Don
