K so i bought a 1st gen from a gentleman who said it did run... that was a lie lol. said it had a dead #6 hole... that was true and he said when it runs it would pop through the intake and he did not have time to fix it. light bulb came on in that moment (burnt or bent valve) he had mentioned that timing might be off so i tow it home start to look into the no compression problem find the intake push rod was bent like a number 7 lol figured sweet 6 dollar part and its fixed  well i get it back together new push rod and all and i start to crank. i get 2 hard turns the rest were soft like it still had no compression. out of frustration i pull both heads only to find head gasket sealant completely blocking almost all of the water jacket holes and i look at the head gaskets and you can see where gasses were passing between cylinders on both heads so im fairly certain that was my problem so now im waiting on head gaskets right now at this moment from rock auto but im excited to get this running it has a fairly new a4dl in it 30k or so and from what i can see it still has good cross hatching in the walls. so here is my question do these engines like boost? im am not new to turbos and i know its a bit unconventional but 6-8 psi shouldnt be to outrageous but what fuel management do you guys use? FMU? piggy back such as a SAFC? just kinda getting a feeler PS sorry for the big back story

Since you have the heads off, you're going to want to get a set of 93TM heads since the earlier ones had problems with the casting and being weak (cracking often). As far as the boost, I think there's a few people that have done it but it's not very common.

Thx for the heads up. I'll look into it

I don't see why it wouldn't take 6-8psi easily. Like you said management is the real issue. Unfortunately not many tuners know how to tune obd1 fords. The ones that do don't like to and charge a ton to do it. I have toyed with the idea of swapping out the obd1 engine harness for an obd2 harness and computer from a 4.0 ohv explorer after 96. That way it could be tuned with a handheld and data logging to the shop. To tune obd1 they physically need the vehicle.

well i found a thing on moates.com caller quarterhorse that does live data logging and tuning on EEC-IV and EEC-V ECUS and its 250.00 not to bad and it plugs right into the diag port on our ECUs looks pretty handy. BUT i puller the engine out to get a oil return in the pan and new bearings and arp rod bolts and all of my oil rings are seized glad i decided to go the extra mile saved me alot of time down the road lol

Get the felpro super duty gaskets. .you can go to about 12 psi before gaskets will blow..stock tune will work till about 5 psi but if you change out your maf it will need to be tuned..anything over 5 and new injectors/pump will be needed, a fmu will help till about 6-8 psi..you wont need arp anything till over 12psi..anything over 5 psi also go to TR6 plugs

QH is nice but not many people have used it on the ohv leaving you to figure out most of it..

I personally use sct Eliminator chip but as pointed out it needs to be tuned on a dyno, which is best way anyways. ..
