Speaker Choice Question

Okay Gang:

I have a Stock CD/Cassette, under the armrest changer Ford Stereo and want to change out the stock speakers for something that will be better than stock.

What's the best brand choice getting the best bang for the buck????

Thanks all!

JD

Wow!!!
23 views of this post to date and not one comment!

Maybe I should'nt have called this string boring!

Speaker choice is all down to personal taste. I went for Pioneer 6*9s but there are loads of others at varying prices. Go and listen to some at your local store and see which ones you like.

Thanks Howard. I have heard some say that swapping the stock speakers doesn't make much difference, others say it makes a great difference.

What gives?? Are the stock speakers crappy?

JD

The stock speakers are good if you're using the factory radio, if you go to an aftermarket deck then the factory speakers can't handle the power and sound crappy.

The same sort of problem is true with upgrading the stock speakers, the factory HU just doesn't have the power to get the most out of aftermarket speakers.

Well whilst it is true that the stock hu cannot do the speakers justice. There will be some benifit in upgrading the speakers, such as a better tonal range and cleaner sound. Thats what I found anyway.

Great comments guys. Thanks for the info.

JD

I have the pioneer 6x8's in my doors and I was running stock speakers with my aftermarket headunit, but it sounded crappy. After putting in the pioneers it sounded a lot better and they aren't expensive, too.

I put INfiniti Kappa 6x8, they sound amazing

I guess what I was getting at was if I keep the stock HU, would I hear a difference if I bought some speakers to replace the stock ones. So far it sounds like it wouldn't make much of a difference.
Please let me hear some more about this!!

Thanks!

JD

From my own experience yes you will notice a difference even with the stock hu. I got a much cleaner sound with more frequency range.

New HU?????

Allright, Im think a new HU is in store.

I have the CD changer under my armrest and I really like it. So if I were to get one, if would have to accomodate the CD changer. Also, I would like the HU to play MP# CD's.

so I guess I need to re-ask this question with this in mind.

Who makes a "double wide" HU, capable of playing MP3's and can accomodate my changer??? Then what speakers to go along with it.

I don't need the best in car audio but something better than stock.

Suggestions?????

JD:p

From what I read the stock changer will not work with an after market HU so that will have to be changed as well and, to make matters worse, I don't think there is a double din HU that plays MP3's. But thats the bad news now to the good news. You can simply fit a bracket for the single din HU and there is a good chance that the cd changer will be the same size as the stocker so can be re-fitted under the armrest as it is now. Which one to choose is a hard one to answer. Personally I went for a Kenwood unit but there are lots of people here who don't like them. I'm happy with mine. Time to go shopping me thinks. Get the shop to fit it all for you if you don't feel like trying to strip it all out.

You can't go wrong with an Alpine or Pioneer headunit. http://www.cbrstereo.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=22&HS=1
This is a great deck for $230 if you dont mind spending that much. For speakers, it certainly depends on what you like. Go to a local audio shop and listen to everything they have. My choice is Infinity Referneces. You can run them off your headunit and they're not expensive. Polk makes some good speakers too

I have them as well and would also recommend them.

I also have a Pioneer DEH-4600MP h/u and love it. My recommendation on head units from the best on down is: Eclipse, Alpine, Pioneer, then all the rest.

But, like others said, opinions are like a-holes....everyone's got one. So you should go listen to a couple brands at Best Buy or Circuit City and see what you like. Remember though, you get what you pay for but don't pay for them at Best Buy or Circuit City. You can find better deals online.

That's a great choice and I almost bought that myself but didn't want to spend that much at the time. Got a great deal on my Pioneer. I would definitely recommend the Alpine 9827 as well.

And, there is NO WAY to use the stock changer with an aftermarket head unit. Just get an MP3 player such as the ones we've recommended and you'll never miss your changer. Matter of fact, sell the changer on Ebay like I did. I made $125.00 which paid for about 75% of my head unit. Hey, I even sold my stock h/u on Ebay for $100.00. Can't beat that.

What are my speaker sizes anyway? (Front/Back).

Thanks!

JD

Actually they are the same size front and rear, 5x7/6x8. I also recomend the Alpine 9827. My only complaint is they could have fit more text on the face at one time if it didn't have all those symbols. Not a big deal, but the only thing that has bugged me so far.

I ended up purchasing a Pioneer DEH-P5500MP HU, and then got some Pioneer 3 Way speakers for the doors. Anybody have luck getting the door panels off to get the speakers in?? Looks like a tough job!!

Anyway, I got all the stuff off Ebay. The HU was $150 with shipping, and I got all four speakers for $103 with shipping. I forget the model number of the speakers but can post it later.
