I have a 2000 Explorer. At different times in the last 10 years, both FOBs quit working... then just start working again. Unfortunately, right now I am in a "NOT WORKING" mode.

Any ideas what might be causing this? It *might* be caused by heat... as we have recently been above 90 for several days... but I can't really pinpoint it to that.

I have tried the 8 cycle OFF/ON trick.. and the locks will unlock... but pressing the FOB buttons do nothing. It is almost like the receiver cuts out. Where is the receiver?

Oh, and of note, the keypad on the drivers door still works, along with all the other locking features.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

Hugh

Hugh.. have you tried the batteries. Mine got pretty temperamental at one point and I changed the batteries and all was well again.

New batteries in fobs as well.

I doubted it was the batteries, but went ahead and put a new one in both fobs. Still don't work.

I have the same issues with my `97 fobs

do the side door buttons work?

I'm betting it's your RAPS module... errr whatever the thing is in the back that does the fobs and door buttons

*edit* just reread and am going DOH that I didnt read that part the first time

take the remote apart and clean under the rubber of the buttons, both the electrical contact side and the rubber side with alcohol

I don't won't to be ungrateful for the suggestions... but the problem is not the fobs themselves. They both work absolutely fine and then they both quit working at the exact same time. Won't work for weeks to months on end, and then will work perfectly again without any interaction on my part.

If the problem was a fob, then one would work and the other would not (at least on occasion). This is not the case.

So, you mention a RAPS module. Could this be bad if the fobs don't work, but the keypad on the door does? I was looking at this link:

Thanks!

When mine does that I bang it against by running board or tire and it works fine again.

Just curious. Where around KC do you live?
