hello...I have a 98 sport 4x4 with a recently rebuilt tranny. I had 4 new tires
put on today and now my worn out ball joints are stressing and i also have my
4whigh and 4wlow lights flashing two to six times and then quit while driving
and once while stopped. I'm thinking new tires bigger diameter than the old worn
out tread tires has changed my speed sensor or something. I stayed w/ the same tire size
which are P235/70R16's. I'm pretty sure the vehicle origanaly had 15 inch wheels on it
cause thats what the sticker inside the door says with P235/75R15's wrapped around them.
There was not any problem with the 4 wheel drive before installing new tires. any suggestions
wil be greatly welcomed

i dont think you finished typing....

I accidently posted long before i was done finger pecking....hehehe

Didn't the Sports come with 255/70/16 from the factory? If so, you would be running with a small diameter tire (29" vs 30.1"), which may effect your speed or abs sensor.

As long as all tires are the same size, it shouldn't matter. Not even sure if it would make a difference even if they are different.

True. The tire size is irrelevant so long as all four tires are the same size.

A blinking 4x4 light indicates a shift motor problem more than likely.

False. The blinking lights can mean any number of issues, the least common of which is the shift motor on a second-gen Explorer. The system has detected a fault with some part of the system. You could try changing out the rear axle speed sensor on the diff, or the fron shaft speed sensor on the t-case, or the shift motor, or the TOD relay, or the GEM module, or the shift relays or the.... you get the point. Without using an NGS tester to scan the GEM DTCs, it's a guessing game at best. It's one of the rare cases where a good shop equipped with an NGS tester is worth its weight in gold to pinpoint the problem and prevent throwing good money after bad.

update on my flashing 4whi- 4wlo dash lights. I was out of town for a week
leaving my xp sitting. after driving it once i got home the lights are not flashing. So i guess it's fixed itself. Oh, I got a letter from ford about the recall on the speed control system mod. I'm going to take it to Ford and try to get them to looki into my flashing lights after they fix the no-charge recall.
Thanks to all who gave me advice on this subject.
