Both lights are on. The brakes work good and I don't have ABS. They've been on for a long time. What's up?

What year is your Ex?

Pretty sure it came with ABS, did you disable or remove it?

It should at least have rear anti lock brakes. Have you tried to check for codes?

Either I don't know what antilock brakes look like or I don't have any. I didn't remove them. How do I tell?

1994 was the first year with four wheel ABS. Check the relay under the hood in the power distribution box. If you don't want ABS then pull the relay and the light should go out. The "Brake" light is a separate issue. Its to let you know your parking break is still on, or you are low on brake fluid, or both.

94 and I thought 93 use Teves MarkIV unit(I think specifically MarkIV(g)). Should control front left individually, front right individually, and both rear together.

If you choose to try address your abs and get it working. Read the codes. If it is a valve issue, worth it to open up as likely it is just shorting rust on the solenoids:

Doesn't mean you don't clean the valves and put new orings on though!

If an issue exists with your ABS, your brakes will still work fine (barring any separate issue), but won't pulse to prevent lockup.

As for the brake warning, check the actual harness connector going to the master cylinder too.

It may be as simple as cleaning the front ABS sensors and tone rings with a little brake cleaner to get rid of the ABS light. The brake light may be a low fluid issue, or the parking brake switch may be bad. Just a couple more options that might be easy! :)

Thanks guys. I should have said I have a Ranger not an Explorer. No ABS. I found the problem. The master cylinder looked to be more than 1/2 full so I thought the float would shut the light/s off. It wasn't up far enough. I added brake fluid and it's amazing, the lights went out. Now all I have is the check engine light on. I read the code and it was for a dirty MAF so I cleaned it. It didn't clear the code.

If your brake fluid level dropped, I would inspect the brakes. Might be time for some new pads/shoes.
Either that or a pinhole leak

Glad you solved the problem.
But you do have ABS, even though you have a Ranger, and even though there is no fuse in the underhood power box.
That panel diagram is correct for a 93 Ranger, perhaps yours is an early 94 and got some 93 components.
Most 94s have a fuse under the hood, also.
You’ll have a fuse for ABS in the panel under the dash.
Specifically RABS, rear ABS.

Damn... that ABS Hydraulic unit is a mess. I didn't think it could rust so badly.
