I'm buying a 2007 Explorer Ironman with the Class III/IV towing package. It already has the 7-pin plug.

Now, I've read the sticky threads above (the one referring to the 02-05 Explorers) and I searched this forum quite a bit, but I can't find a definitive description of what I need to do to install my brake controller.

I think, if I'm reading correctly, since I have the tow package, I shouldn't need to do anything but plug in the controller. There should be a harness for me to plug in to (with the proper adapter/pigtail) somewhere in the cab. Okay, where? I can't find anything that looks like it would fit the bill. Is this behind the glove compartment? If so, how do I get back there?

Also, any good suggestions for where to mount it? I'm thinking I'd like to use velcro to mount it by my right knee, and that way I can just take it out when I'm not using it. The controller I want is auto-leveling. Anybody see a problem with that?

Thank you in advance!

On my '08 with the class III/IV tow package, Ford provided a pigtale harness for a brake controller. The connector is under the IP, between the parking brake and steering column. I just installed a new Prodigy brake controller and it came with a Ford harness jumper so I did not need the pigtale.

Thanks. I still couldn't find it, so I had to have the service guy at the dealership show me. He couldn't find it either and had to look it up.

It was pretty much where you said it was, but it was WAY up there in a fixed position. I had envisioned a dangling cable or something.

Okay, so I decided to take some pictures. I posted the whole write-up on my blog. Please check it out if you need pictures to illustrate.
