except for the window brake light...my brake lights do not work on my 99 explorer. I have replaced the bulbs and have put on a new brake switch..but only the window goes on...in 99 there were 2 types of switches and mine is the one with 5 contacts in a row. I don't notice anything burnt....I'm pretty sure the right one went out first and awhile later the left. Does the wire connector to the switch ever have problems. It seems ok and I can't see a way to replace. Help..and soon!!!!! Thanks
Barry

brake light not working

I had the same problem with my 92. I found that the problem was in the steering console swith (turning signals, high beam, etc.) Believe it or not , the brake lights do go through this switch. I just took it apart and repaired it that way. But be careful, there are some springs and assorted parts that can pop out.

this is a 99 we are talking about. These have seperate turn and brake lights out in the back... cable doesn't go through that switch anymore.... but still there are two different cables that supply power to the bulbs. If you have twoing package make sure that trailer wiring harness is not plugged in and that brake light relay works...firs check that and then check the fuses once again... and all the connections in the back. Something might of gotten loose.
