We seem to have a bit of a problem with our 2003 Explorer. The brake lights will not go out, even with the Explorer turned off with the key out of the ignition. Any idea as to what the problem might be?

Hi Brian, welcome to the forum. I was just getting ready to answer your post over in the new guy forum when I saw you found this one.:)

Your brake switch is probably stuck. There was another post here just a day or two ago on the same thing. Scroll down for it, maybe back one page now.

Aw heck, here ya go: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=185047

From e how
Check the brake-pedal switch. This small button behind the brake pedal is activated when you press down on the brake pedal and makes the brake light go on. Press the switch by hand to see if it's stuck. If it is, pressing it may force the stuck part.

I have this same problem. I always remember to reach in the car and pull the brake pedal towards the drivers seat before locking the doors. It isnt a scientific fix, but it has always worked.
