So, I'm trying to get a hold of a new Master Cylinder, my proportioning valve has taken a crap, and I currently do NOT have properly functioning rear brakes. Thank heaven the front ones work so well!! I have a '96 MC w/ ABS and CC and I'm looking at swapping in an '01 MC w/ ABS and CC.
Facts I know; (all with disc rear brakes)
- Part numbers are the same for all '95 - early '97 MC's with ABS and cruise control, V6/V8 doesn't matter.
- Part numbers are the same for all late '97 - '01 MC's with ABS and cruise control, V6/V8 doesn't matter.
- Forgive me for lack of knowledge/terms, but the 'bigger' hole for the hardline is swapped between the years. '95-'97 have the big opening in the front, '97-'01 in the rear of the master cylinder.
- The reservoirs have different fluid level sensors, which I assume is not a problem and can be swapped out/rewired.
- the '95 - '97's have a 1-1/16th" bore, the '97 - '01's have a potential slightly longer one, 1-1/8th"? (unsure about that fact)
My question is: Is it possible to swap a "later model", '01, into my '96? If I'm not mistaken, I'd just have to grab the steel lines that feed from the Master Cylinder INTO the ABS Pump corrrect? Is there a difference, meaning would this be an upgrade? And has anyone done it?
