1) do you have drums or rotors? i thought all 2nd gens had disk brakes..

2) its a circle... why do you think its upside down?

I think the way they mount they have to be right side up. Come on, they're not that hard to change!!!

impossible scenario here, if they are bolted up and working on a 2nd gen then they are mounted properly

the "only" possible way i can see him mixing something up.. is if they're the slotted rotors-

if so- then YES, one needs to be on the right and one needs to be on the left of the vehicle. and it will matter

if ya got disc's and you mount the caliper's on the wrong side you won't be able to successfully bleed your rear breaks. the bleed screw will be on the upper side of the caliper preventing successful bleedation. :) i know he's got drums but i thought i'd chime in here.

i was unaware that a '97 X had drum brakes. i thought that one of the 2nd gen changes were disc brakes at all 4 corners instead of discs up front and drums in the rear.

im pretty sure he doesnt have drum brakes.. they're disk brakes.

and if he thinks he mounted his "drum" upside down- id really think that logically he probably wouldnt even attempt to put new calipers on.. know what i mean ;)

i got $10 says he's got slotted rotors

long story.... i broke my factory caliper bracket and was in need of rear brakes to drive 500 miles home. Went to a juk yard and the only 8.8 i could find was a 94 model. So i bought the rear axle and swapped from discs to drums. In the process i mounthe the drum upside down. you can tell due to the e-brake cable being pointed towards the back of the truck.

and i'll take your 10$ sk1er17

Misinformation...

I need to disagree with this statement.

Common sense says Air rises, Liquid falls. When bleeding brakes you are trying to remove AIR and not fluid. The bleeder screw is almost always at the highest possible point of the caliper, or else you will NEVER remove air trapped in a line/caliper.

If you've got a Haynes manual laying around, look into the first couple pages in section 9, in two of the pics it shows the bleeder at the top, above the brake line.

Switch back to discs........problem solved.

i wish it were that simple... Ford doesnt have any of brakcets to attach my caliper back on and wont get more till there are 50 orders nation wide. i am number 39 and 39

yep couldnt find any in TN or in NC that will let just the brake bracket go off a 8.8. They want you to buy the whole axle for 5-1200$

Didnt you already have a disc braked 8.8? Where are the discs from that???

Currently your drums are not setup right, the pressure from the master cylinder is made for discs....yikes!!!

yeah i still have the discs just not braket to mount the calipers to. the braket blew into lots of pieces when i was backing off up on a trail and forgot i had the ebrake on. It rolled pretty easy then POW!!! and no brakes at all cause it ripped the soft line going to the caliper as the caliper spun around the wheel.

I got an adjustable proportioning valve and it stops fine with drums...

Figured out the brake problem tonight too. I just had the drums on the wrong side not upside down like i thought. I swapped sides and rigged up my e-brake to work iwth the old Drums brake e-brake.

Dig through the For Sale Wanted, and trade forum, and find someone parting an Explorer out, and try and get the brackets there. Ford not making more until they recieve 50 orders is BS. Call their headquarters and *****. You have to make factory parts available for 10 years from date of manufacture, unless you close the doors.

Not to mention the fact I'm sure they're using the same brackets on the current sporttracs, the brackets are still being manufactured.

well everytime i call they are on backorder, and wont get more in till 50 or more orders are made. The question isnt whether they are making them. Its whether they are making enough to keep making sport tracs and fix people that have accident prone trucks like me.

I am kinda like the drums though.... i think they stop better than the discs did offroad. The discs got wet and wouldnt stop worht **** but the drums grab like crazy when they are wet.
