Brighter Reverse Lights

Ok..Has anybody tried these "Hyper Whites" by RAYBRIG ,replacement lights for their reverse lights.They are supposed to be 2x's brighter than stock.My back windows are pretty dark and the stock lights just don't cut it. I was wondering if there was a way to brighten things up a bit. I am a little worried about installing big ones ,not wanting to run any new wiring. (just yet anyway!) Any help or input,recommendations,would be appreciated.

Well, as for stock bulb replacements, people have had both good and bad luck with them. Some members like them and they work well, but oftentimes they will create too much heat and melt wiring or the housing.

A better option is to install aux reverse lights. It's not that hard, just running a few wires after you find a good way to mount the new lights. Many members have aux backup lights. We'll help you out if that's the way you want to go.

Hmmm....didn't think about the heat factor!? I don't have a roof rack (yet!) and I'm afraid of ripping them off in a ditch somewhere. If you mount them on top of the bumper,they'd be in the way of the hatch,wouldn't they?Any suggestions....This may be an excuse for a roof rack!!! Honey ! I gotta run to the store for a minute........LOL

Mine used to be under the bumper, and I took them off whenever I went offroading. Not a big deal, just annoying. Now mine are on my roof basket. You could move your rear roof rail all the way back and mount them to that. You at least have a factory rack, right?

No..It didn't have one when I bought it (used) and I didn't see any evidence that there was one. I don't know if they screw down or had some type of adhesive. Was this standard equip? Should I try the junkyard or does anybody have any vendor recommendations..I'm not looking for the top of the line , but somewhere in between.I guess I'll have to get that taken care of first. Also... some pics of racks/light mounts on a 94' would be appreciated.

I use a back-up aux light mounted underneath. I don't go off-road all that much (except pulling trees out of my back-yard, lol) so I don't have your issue with the under-bumper mount like I have. In fact, the hole was already there, all I had to do was splice into my reverse light wires, and tighten the nut. Done! I don't know if you have a Farm and Fleet / Farm King by you, but they sell these farm implement (tractor lights) lights that are a 55W prizim flood pattern - works perfectly!

For you roof-rackers with lights, how do run the wires? Drill holes?

I ordered 50 watt reverse lights from Explorer Express two weeks ago. Took 5 minutes to install in my 99. Seems to be about twice as bright or even more. Works great for me. bulbs are guaranteed for life(must mail in the form). Manufacturer warns not to be in reverse for longer than a few minutes as the heat buildup can warp or melt your light housing. Bulbs are $8 for one and explorer express has a minimum $8 delivery fee. Can't remember the manufacturers name but was concept something or other. The company also markets lights that will beep when you back up too. So far seems to be the easiest and cheapest way to go. Oh, do not touch the new bulbs with you fingers!!!!! ps. RVITECHs set up would definitely be brighter than mine.

I have used the Explorer express back up light bulbs ( and also aux lights mounted under the bumper ) for 1 1/2 years now with no overheat problem nor burn out.

They work great and are inexpensive.

I just went to pep boys and got a set of $20 fog lights... and mounted them under my bumper... as for going off road.. i have never had a prob... seeing as how my shackles are lower then the lights and allmost as far back they would hit before the lights... also the lights are only about 1" maybe 2" so they dont add to much to the bumper... and if i do hit them.. who cares... they were $20 =P

Looks good MIKKE. Bet ya it works great on tailgaters too. Hmmm...... wonder if those would fit or if my reciever hitch would be in the way. better go look.

Yea, Mike they look great! ....They are pretty low profile and seem to be out of the way. Do they give you better sight/light out back ?..looks like you have tinted windows too, which is why I want something brighter.

Hey Jarrett, the manufacturer of the 50 watt reverse lightt bulbs from explorer express is design tech. Had them for a couple off weeks now. no problems and work great.Still like MIKKEs set up. This way is just easier, but not as bright.
