Broken Door Lock

My driver side door recently stopped working. It required "pumping" it sometimes to open the door and is now disabled. I saw that this problem is common and went to fix it I replaced the left side door handle because when I took mine out the teeth were broken. I put the new door on, pull the lever, and broken the teeth on the handle a second time. There's a lot of pressure apparently from the metal rod that unlocks.

Any idea what step to take next? Also the locks work on all doors except this one now too.

Mine did the same thing. The key wouldn't even work. I found that the latch was broke
