tomarrow morning i will be going to look at a BII, i am considering trading my old '87 f150 4x2, the truck needs some work but the bronco needs a O2, the guy seems like a pretty straight forward and honest guy but then again people can be deceiving..

what should i look for?
this is going to get me flamed for sure but...i do not know the year, i do know it has the 2.9, and a 5 speed stick.

this won't be my DD, just my weekend toy and trail truck, also if i get it look forward to a budget build thread to pop up not long after i get it.

also if you guys know of any axle upgrades that can be pulled out of newer RBV's that are better/stronger inform me..
any thing that can be snaged from the bone yard let me know, because besides a possible lift and any parts that are useless to use if they are used, this will be built out of the boneyard..

thanks!!:salute:

Might want to check out around the front coil brackets where it attaches to frame. Some B2s really get rusted out behind the bracket. On mine I had to weld in some plates in that location when I went to coilovers.
Also a notorious rust out spots are located at each body mount. Again I had a few that required fixing with some 3/16 or 1/4" plate. This can be done when you install good quality body mounts that it will need for sure.
Along the lines of new body mounts to keep the Roll center in check is to get rid of any sagging suspension springs, front and back.
Check out also the entire radiator support also not just the two body mounts that are located there.
Since this is not going to be a DD, I would not be to concerned about rust around wheel wells or under carpet. These will be cut out any way for larger tires and then there are after market flairs that can be installed like Gorilla flairs or Duffs.
But you can always mention it to get the price down.
Could go with half doors or tubed doors to get the COG down.
The ratio of weight in respect to it's wheel base is high and a lot of it is mounted high, so any weight you can remove or relocate to a lower position will make for a better ride.
Do you really need the capet? If not strip out and bed line the inside this will also let you fix any rusted out floor panels.
The rear axle needs to be at least an 8.8 that is no big deal to install.
The front should be at least a D35 with longer arms. Or better yet a D44.
The mods i listed, I've done on mine including going to D35 and then to the 44 but with a few more Mods added along the way.

Is this going to be street legal?

Let us know how it went.

if i get it it will stay street leal, and i was thinking of building some tube doors for summer and just fab up a way to be able to swap'em back to full doors in winter.

i do not know if i will be getting it, the guy told me he took it out and drove it and made sure the 4x4 works but that truck hasn't moved in a year or more... so that means he lied which also makes me wonder about how it was treated, and what the true condition of the motor is..

also it wouldn't start, another red flag...

it had a redneck/jerry-rigged E-fan on it and there was exposed wires that were spliced poorly everywhere...
..if you've kept count thats 3 strikes...he's out

I agree, good call

Keep looking.

Check the coolant and oil closely - make sure no head gasket stew in there. Also (at least up here in WI) the rear shackles rot out nasty style - I would check there too.

raga, there isn't really any shakle, spring, or frame rot to worry about here... but i have learned if you feel under the fender lip and there is tons of clay and mud, you better check the shakles, springs, and frame because chances are it most likely hasn't been cleaed good after they took it in the mud or off road...

i thought you guys may get a kick out of this...

i had a guy offer me this after i posted a wanted ad on CL, its a ranger cab on a BII chassy, i call it the "banger"... i literally LOL'd when i opened the email and thought hell no, but the more i look at it i can see the potential for one BA trail rig..

:bsnicker:
jus needs a lil elbow grease is all.

wanna know the huge kicker?
he wanted 1000 for it!!! i was like "no way" then i got him down to 800 and i haven't even seen it yet..

dude I wouldn't give him more than $300 for it... And THAT would be a stretch.

he has a lot of parts with it, like a step side bed, and some other goodies but 500 is the most i would give for it..

Looks prepped for a tube rear and 4-link to me.

Now here's a man with vision.
It's a "Is the the the truck halve empty or half full thing".
If you link rear, might as well push it back a couple inches.

200 for the truck, i don't know what the bII sitch is in Ga but here you can practically get them for free, i got mine for a set of worn out 31's. but as a little truggy that thing is pretty gd cool, just make some bedsides out of a ranger bed. that would be *****in, maybe even bob it in the front

a good b2 around here, one that you can hop in and drive home, will run you about 1500.
