howdy having problems with my 90 bronco11.runs fine on level and minable hills but on long uphill inclines will bog down as if flooding out, backfireing in exhaust and completely losing power where the only way to keep moving is to backoff on throttle until a bare min movement forward is kept.all electrical componets check out as ok with code reader compression tests at 170-180 right across so not a valve issue unless one temporarly stuck twice in one day.any sugestions? it is fuelinjected.

thanks bb new to this don't know my way around the site or how to work the replies yet haven't checked the pressure but will today.it's almost like under extreme load the timing is off causing the motor to run against itself re the backfireing in the exhaust, checking that out today also.boy sure appreciate the ideas brought up on this sitealways open to learning

FUEL PROBLEM

Your fuel pump is getting weak
If you have two pumps (1990 should have one) then your in tank pump is shot

If you park it on a hill with the tank downhill for a few hours, will it start?
My guess is NO

I fought this SAME ISSUE exactly in my BII for a year.
In tank fuel pump (boost pump) was toast.

I am now on my 4th in tank pump and 2nd high pressure pump! LOL 300K Miles

when I read the title to this thread, I was like, "Well dua?!" BII and power problem go hand in hand!!

Serioulsy I suspect your fuel pump BIG TIME
sounds exactly like what my bii has done to me more then once

uphill = not getting enough fuel to the engine
you back out of the throttle, no longer starving, pressure is adequate again
this is a weak fuel pump

check fuel pressure at the rail at WOT, and park on a hill if you can, I bet it drops below 32 psi :)
check for 12V+ at pump (make sure its not getting like 10 volts, this would point to wiring/relay)

pull the carpet out of the back and cut a 10" square hole in the floor to get access to the tank (i used my dremel and a half dozen heavy duty 1 1/2" cut off wheels). doing this is a whole lot easier than dropping the tank out. the last time i had to change out the tank pump, it took me less than 15 minutes.
duct tape (the handyman's secret weapon) is what keeps the dust and fumes out with the panel dropped back in place.

wow thanks you guys i've had computer troubles and this is the first time to read your advise will let you know what i find and really appreciate this site mill rat
