I know this post is some what miss placed but I need some quick help.... I totaled my Bronco II before buying my X, now someone wants it for parts for their Ranger. Question is, will the rearend of my 90 4x4 Bronco II be interchangable w/ a 89 Ford Ranger 4x4. I need to know if the BII rear end is 7.5 or 8.8, and what the gear ratio is..... Any help?? Please!! I could really use the cash, so I'm hoping to unload this thing....

Well

Yes it will work, however.......

There are a FEW (VERY LIMITED NUMBER) 90 BII's that came with a 8.8 rear end.
I really doubt you have the 8.8, so it is probably a 7.5"

Nobody can tell you what gears you have until you actually read the axle tag. Most likely they are 3.55

The axle tag will contain all 3 numbers to tell you what gears you have.
It will say like:

7.5 373 L with a bunch of other numbers and such in there.

Yes the rear end will work on a ranger, however the shock mounts and spring perchs will have to be cut off and new ones welded on, I believe.

It's been so long!

I want your BII for parts too!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're close to Maine, it could be yours! If not...sorry! I don't think its going to be going too far. When I rolled it I dented the roof, passenger door and broke the big side window. Who ever picks it up will get a deal, the thing is FULL of new parts, alternator, starter, driveshaft, exhaust, clutch, shocks, springs.... the list goes on!

It should be the 7.5. The chance of it being an 8.8 is as great as finding a 90 B2 with a 4.0 from the factory. They were made for Cali emmissions reasons, & only sold there, but if it had the 4.0, it also would have the 8.8 rear end. The springs, & shock mounts should be the same. Goto Dead Link Removed

They have several boards for the 2.9, & old rangers.

I have 1 of each of the Large Rear Side windows.
I believe they came off of a 84 or 85 BII. They are located in Dracut Mass. (Near Lowell Ma)

E-mail me if you are intrested in them.

So the person who wants this has a 89 Ranger w/ a 7.5 rearend, but their mechanic told them that the gear ratio had to be the same. I think mine is 3.55, and the Ranger is 3.73 (I think).... Is this a line of bull? I didn't think that would matter, it would just change the gearing a bit, which doesn't matter much since both vehicles are stock. Any info?

If the ranger is a 4X4 then it does. It has a front diff, & a rear diff. They both need to have the same gears. If the front is 3.73, then the rear needs to be 3.73. Unless he just doesn't drive in 4X4 EVER or it's a 4X2, it will be fine. He could just swap the gears in the rear. Put the 3.73's in the old one into the new one. He will pay a penny for that though.
