Just thought I'd toss this one out there. Usually I figure if something was easy it would've already been done, but you never know.
Anyone think about or tried mocking up a Bronco II tire carrier onto an Explorer? I don't have a BII any more so I can't try it out, but as I recall the hinges and latch plate were secured to the body internally with thin (1/8"?) steel plates.
If the geometry of the body is close enough, I don't see why it couldn't be installed on an Explorer. It probably wouldn't be great for large tires, but it would get the spare out from under and let you mount an antenna or acessory or two.
