Building a Snorkel

What for-really?

Think about it guys. It looks cool but you'll also have to seal the dipsticks, fuse box, vents, etc, all of which are lower than the proposed snorkel intake. If you manage to keep water out of the intake, I think the short circuits will stop ya..
On my X, I removed the cold air tube to prevent forcing water into the box and now the inlet is at the same hieght as the fuses. I believe that that is about the deepest (top of the fender well) you can expect to forge without ruining something.;)

Lol, you could always do what I have seen in the past,
but only on cars they take out to Jim Creek
(local 4x4ing area, very popular) to rally. Though it
did make it across the stream crossing back and forth.

they just took some tubing, duct tape, and a milk jug,
cut some holes in the side, used that tubing and
the milk jug to make a snorkle, and vented the exhaust
out the side too :D

Then again, it was a POS junker :p hehe

But I am curious to see a really good looking and working
snorkel, looking to put one on my X too.

I am having some real problems with my X and water,
I am doing some tests now to try and make it work
better. My friends and I are thinking about rewiring
the entire thing and using a silicone-grease combo
to seal all the electrics. I hear that is it used in some
cases on Land Cruisers to seal things like the distribitor,
and from what I have heard it works pretty darn well.

I am wondering how to get all that other stuff protected
too, I dont want water in wierd places. I run on
glacial silt often, which is the equivalent to volcanic
ash. Talk about hard on a truck! It would be great
to be able to keep all that stuff out. Volcanic ash in a
transfer case or tranny is just bad news :(

Gotta run!

I made a snorkel out of pvc pipe and put a K&N can filter on the top and made a sheet metal cover for it

Rocky- thats exactly what i did w/ my intake. I used to inhale small amounts of water regularly but now i can bury the car practically and nothing will happen. id still like to raise my intake tho. i know that wont ever get anywhere near my intake location now, but i would like to have the confidence that my fan isnt going to blow water up into my intake.
