So I was doing some off-roading in the snow and my back slid and I hit a metal post and got some scratches...and of course it had to be on my new bumper
I don't have the money to have a company repair it, so I think I'll be doing an at home paint job on the bumper. Any tips or comments are welcomed.

:ttiwwp:

Nate, I had to do it, lol!! :p:

Standing by for the pics............

I say leave it! Bragging rights at the mall. :p:

All kidding aside its not that bad so i would just leave it for now.

I may leave it. Maybe just get some scratch sealer to prevent any further damage

EDIT: Ironically this happened (on the bumper) in the exact spot that the damage from my accident occured.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, is it deep or is it just a surface scruff? I would try compounding it. I've taken countless scratches out of my car with some rubbing compound and some old fashioned elbow grease.

Some are deep, and some aren't. The majority are enough to take it to primer and some down to the bare plastic (in this case). I'll give compounding a try. Just too cold...-1 degrees out side.

Nate, the ones through the paint or even primer will need paint to fix. The ones not throught hepaint would need about 30 seconds of Ultimate Compound and a microfiber to fix... Hit them all, you might be surprised at the minimal lines left behind after UC.

After youve done the prep work get a paint shop to mix up a few ounces of paint to match your truck, if you dont have your own gun/compressor i'm sure they could do a cheap cash job. Put whats left in a tin and take it home incase (touch wood) something like this goes down again. Painting is the easy part, the prep is what costs.

I have the compressor, and a small jar of paint (leftover from my accident). I can probably get a couple of cans of paint from the local auto body supply store. I think maybe I'll just wait...may get some more scratches on this thing, but my OCD side may kick in and I may paint it sooner than later... maybe I can pick up an XLS bumper for off-roading. ;)

Summer or spring project maybe???? :dunno:
Just way too cold to do anything! :p:

EDIT: Maybe if I sell my running boards for enough I can maybe pay for a repair job.

Sorry I forgot you dont paint anything in Utah in winter unless youve got your own heat booth. I like the idea of a second bumper tho', hey what about turning your running boards into an off-roading bumper?:D

Hmm... I'll think on that...good thought.
For ease of build the XLS bumper would be easy to get...or else I can just get another bumper and use some truck bed liner on it. I do need a paint job on the front end...peeling paint! :D

Ah yup the bedliner would look good. Tough as nails too.

SNOW !!! LUCKY !!!

i hope it snows here in South Philly like it did last winter lol... Epic area record of like 78'' summed up in 3 storms...

So today I walked out of costco and I can't really notice the scratches on my bumper until I'm up close. Think I'll wait until summer to get my bumper fixed.

Put bedliner on it and if possible get it matched to look the same as the rest of the truck. JDraper had his bumpers on his F150 rhino lined and had the rhino lining tinted to the factory bumper color.
