BUYER BEWARE CARID.COM CALIPER COVER PURCHASE

Well that is a really ****ty story. I would have initiated a charge back with your credit card company and only way they would get their stuff back is with a prepaid label.
I didn't know I had such options. And I paid via paypal through my credit card. I will call the credit card company and see if they can help. TYVM

"Sounds like he wasn’t aware he had the larger brakes until after THEY decoded his VIN and told him. It would have been pure luck if he ordered the correct ones."
That's exactly what happened. I would have been pure luck and I wasn't lucky even though the sales rep approved it.

Sorry to hear you had to go through all that. Hard lesson learned. As suggested, try to at least get your shipping/duty charges returned with Paypal.

Online shopping has became the normal these days, and it is easy to forget, how risky it is to buy something sight unseen, and with shipping involved can be.

Simplify life, spend the extra few bucks, and buy local whenever possible. You just can't trust everybody to do you right, not even some people you know. Trust me, I know.

PayPal is usually good about disputes. Call them and be reasonable and just press the issue, but if you want a refund you probably don’t want to mention you ordered the wrong stuff.

It’s technically not the sellers fault.

I have no recourse with my cc company nor PayPal. I’m SOL and its TFB

Well at least it wasn't a lot of money involved. I'd forget about it and buy the red epoxy paint and paint the calipers.

Unfortunately I dont have the location, tools, and time for that. The only option would be to find excellent red calipers but that’s expensive. I’m dropping the idea.

Red calipers would be about the same as the covers you bought.

If you can swap calipers, you should be able to paint yours for very minimal purchased materials. Total should be under $50 and available at any local parts store.

I don’t have the équipements to jack the car, remove all the wheels, put on blocks, remove all breaking parts, sand the calipers, paint them, then wait to dry and reinstall everything. This is not an option for me unfortunately

I wasn't aware there was a "bigger brake package" since all Explorers built after a certain date in December 2012 have the same HD brakes regardless of trim level.

I guess even the experts like you Peter learned something today

Beat me to it, especially as OP has an XLT, not a Sport or Platinum - at which trim level one might reasonably conclude the brakes are stronger due to the more powerful engine (then again, the Sport was only released in '13 sooooo).

Although my guess would be that those covers are for Explorers built before Dec 12. Being an XLT trim would mean the brakes would be less than HD.

Lol, no buddy. You got had because you didn't do your research. The fact you're outraged over paying duty shows your naivete. The only way to avoid paying duty would be to have it shipped to states and then pick it up yourself. However, if you're caught doing so, CBSA will make you pay duty and probably even a fine if you have the same attitude that you've shown here.

Rock auto shows two different levels of calipers for the 2016
Motorcraft pn DG1Z2B120E Heavy duty
Motorcraft pn 8A8Z2B120AA standard duty

And so does a factory Ford part lookup.

So it doesn’t surprise me there’s confusion. This probably stems from the usage of the same calipers across many models and not keeping the same year ranges for the different models.

Rhino. I dont mind paying customs if I were made aware of it. I OFTEN buy from amazon.com shippers from the US and NEVER are charged duties on top of that. I did du my research and I happily pay an extraordinary amount of income and sales taxes as à canadian citizen. You are missing the point.

amazon has the red calipers for the heavy duty package. about 260.00 for front and back combined. Just make sure you get the right ones because they have the ones for the standard duty also. I bought some red ones from the same company through amazon for the infiniti and they were remanufactured infiniti calipers. Still work and look great. I also replaced all 4 calipers (although not red) on the Exp not too long ago. Same company through Amazon and they were remanufactured FoMoCo calipers. Those work and look great as well.

 Simmer down fellas.

Doesn't amazon usually include duty in price? And then show it as part of the price breakdown before check out? I can't remember if they do, it's been a while.

I've always assumed duty is to be paid on just about everything shipped to Canada. Some shipping companies (looking at you UPS) are totally useless in their communications about it, but unless clearly stated on any receipt, the safe option to is to always assume you're going to have to.
