Well, I haven't had air conditioning for about 6 months but now the problem is becoming annoying. The compressor is buzzing extremely loud and it is coated in a red substance (this in nowhere else in the engine bay). To top things off, sometimes when I have the heater on defrost, the engine revs for no reason. I'll be at a light and the engine will rev. This causes a lurch (or attempt to lurch) forward.

Has anyone else had this problem?

The lack of A/C might be caused by the compressor clutch going out. This will also cause the loud buzzing sound. As far as the red substance and the lurching I have never experianced that. My suggestion would be to have the compressor rebuilt or replaced first and see if that solves the problem(s). Good luck.

I just went through the same problem. Turns out my compressor siezed up real tight. Clutch is shot of course. I would unplug your compressor right away. You may be able to prevent it from siezing up. If your clutch is already shot or rattling, the bearings could be dried up and shot. I had to bypass my compressor altogether until I can get it in and have it all fixed. If you're lucky, you could get it charged up and replace your clutch. However, your compressor might be toast as well. You'll have to check it out. See if you can rotate the front part of the clutch by hand. If it's not rotating, then your compressor is likely fried.

There are some threads in the under the hood section.

Good luck,
Marc
