RIP your transmission 😂

RIP your transmission 😂
Trans is solid
Tell 4poimt that he runs 20+ pounds boost
On his original trans with little work

My wife don't beat on it ...to much
Just passing in the highway she drives this truck 80 MI a day

Thought I'd take a few pictures of the AC repair
Give your buddy a 12 pack to evacuate your system
I'm not a expert by no means
Feel free to tell me what I did wrong so I can learn more

AC compressor groaning
20+ years old
We did replace every o ring with proper ones
We replaced the quick disconnect springs as well

Only had one suggestion. Use anti-seize. All your used hardware needs it. Those firewall bolts are a real pain to deal with when they get rusty. Prevention always beats cure.

I think a little anti seize wouldn't hurt at all
I've been lucky so far with rust hope it stays that way

Very good write-up! I am (at my wife's request) about to take on this project. If left to me, I'd just do without A/C as we don't have that many days where I find it necessary here in MN. Have never dealt with repairing A/C system and have only a basic knowledge of how it all functions. Anyway, my compressor has seized internally; most likely due to lack of use and a confirmed Freon leak as it's all gone from the system and system will not hold a vacuum. Not knowing for sure where the leak is and depending on what I find when I pull the Orifice Tube, my plan is to hopefully get by with only replacing the Compressor, Accumulator and O-rings. Anyway, I have a couple of questions:

1) I bought the Four Seasons Compressor/Accumulator set and the Compressor comes with 3 ozs of oil already installed. I assume I can go ahead and install that and not worry about adding more oil to it?

2) When adding oil to the replacement Accumulator, to which port on it do I add the oil (specifically)

Yes if the oil it in there

I just dumped the old one out to see which tube the oil came out of
I think it came out of both so check for yourself to be sure

Ha...works for me! Thanks.

Great tutorial! Bonus for me as my 98 SOHC should have the same locations! Mine blows hot air. Will be looking to see, if it even turns on. One poster said it's $1200 to have it done at a shop. Don't know if I can get someone to evacuate mine, assuming anything left in it! One question though, if for instance I have the AC parts out of the car, what is affected - can one drive the car without the AC system installed, or does it mess up something else. Never worked on anything AC yet. BTW, what is the manual you're using? Thanks for the detailed explanation, makes me think it's possible to DIY this if I get a vacuum pump and air compressor.

Ford service manual
+1 a must-have for longterm service work, but no need 2 $h*t bricks at price. They're often (always?) available as free downloads, either direct or by torrent. (Posting links here is likely a violation of EF's TOS so must search; patience can be your key to success.)

Plenty of threads with links for the manual 5700 pages and wiring diagrams
Just look;)

Yes, ordered one online. Received a messed up copy with no schematics. Found one online that was free and not messed up and had schematics.

Worth every penny!!!!

Donalds....I'm directing this question to you as it looks like you used the same 4 Seasons compressor as what I just installed. A question I have before I start it up to add freon is whether I need to be concerned about proper air gap with the compressor clutch? Or, is it already correct from the manufacturer? Otherwise, all parts went it without too much trouble and vacuum leak test has checked out okay. Thanks.

Mine was set I did not mess with it just installed it
Don't second guess yourself😇

Okay. Hopefully, I'll have cool air just in time for our first heat wave of the season. Thanks, again!

Don - how do you get you ps and reservoirs to look so clean ?

@donalds Another impressive project!
