i am thinking about putting a c-4 into my 92 explorer 4x4 xlt. i have the v6 a4ld and am sick of that tranny, i have gone through two now and don't want to do it again.
i found a bell housing for a c-4 tranny to bolt up to the 4.0 v6, but i was wondering if anyone else has done this or knows what else i would need to do, like new driveshats, or crossmember, linkage and everything else. or if i should have the tranny i just screwed up rebuilt and upgraded to a "heavy duty" package. any advice will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I am interested in what c-4 you found that will bolt to a 4.0, since, as far as I know, there are none. The c-5 will bolt up, but the c-4 shouldn't. The c-5 bellhousing swap (with c-4 or c-5 behind it) swap is semi-common.

I don't mean this as criticism, I truely am interested.

Run a search on the C5 swap. They are almost identical and you will need C5 parts to make it work. If you found a C4 bellhousing that fits the V6, I am betting its a C5. That swap is pretty common nowdays. A lot of us have ran the C5 very successfully behind other V6s. My swap (my brothers now) is still going strong.

search :) and welcome

i had found a bell housing on ebay that the guy said would bold on to a c-4 and the back of the 4.0 v-6.

would the c-5 bolt up without any mods, like driveshafts, transefer case and all that fun stuff. what would i have to do to get it installed and working.
