for any of you that have a c5, two questions;

1) how much does it cost a shop to rebuild it? meaning whats a fair price. the trans shop down the street said $1k and they'd also put in a shift kit.

2) how hard is it to rebuild it yourself? how much does that cost.

3) going along with question #2, where is a good place to get an overhaul kit. whats a good brand?

thanks for any help

...I was talking to spotterguy about this very trans a few weeks ago...He may have some really good input for you...;)

...Call Maloney's transmission in Orange on glassell...He's not the cheapest but he is darn good...:biggthump

found out that hayne's makes a c5 rebuild "how to" book and it shouldnt be hard to rebuild it. no my question is where do i get the parts?

...This was the only one I could assist with...:dunno:

...But check with Winter this weekend as he seemed to know alot about the C5 and it's offroad applications...

you can easily spend 1,000 on replacing all the hard parts in a tranny.. a high end low stall torque converter will set you back around 400 dollars or so, and it would be a shame to put a tranny together without a new one, so if somebody said they will do it for that much, chances are your not getting very many new parts and there just replacing what needs to be replaced at that very second and not really looking into the future to see what else could be going out soon or attending to known problem areas updating them as much as possible.

My Advice- Call Mogi Transmission in Riverside. Go Reverse valve bodies manual, my transmission is da bomb, Ken at Mogi is a great guy, probably not the cheapest, but whats a few hundred bucks more spent now vs. spending money over and over on the same issue. Not only was my truck's tranny built by Mogi, but when I was on Offroad Adventures with Curt LeDuc we were discussing transmissions and the first words out of his mouth was to "Call Mogi"

WOW. you guys are talking about some high price builds. maybe i'll just stick with my 5spd :rolleyes:
