Can I even put custom wheels on my truck!

I have a 2000 explorer XLT 4x4 I want to eventually put some custom wheels on it, probably 20 or 22 but now I dont even know if I should. A dealer and some others are saying any rim other than the stock size will mess up the suspension and electronics. So I am just wondering will putting these wheels mess up everything do I need to upgrade the suspension or what? I have searched to see what I need to do but didnt find much

try searhcing around you will find Explorer's of all generations with all sorts of fancy custom rims from 15-22" on this forum

yea thats what I thought, im like all of these people putting rims on their trucks cant be having all these problems and what not, I just want to make sure I educate myself enough before I go and do this
