Can I Get A Little Off-Road Inspriration?

Hey Guys!
When I joined this site, I had an Explorer as a work truck and had a couple of questions about maintaining it. Then after spending a couple of nights here looking through everything, I knew I had make it into a real off roader. I had plans of getting an older F150 and making it a project, but after reading and looking at some pics here, I knew I had go to with the Explorer. At the time, there were a lot of threads and pics off some real hardcore off roading. Seemed like everything I saw, inspiried me to try to build a great truck out my X.

So, where did all this go?

Today, it seems like about 1 out of every 200 threads contains something inspiring to someone trying to build up an X into an off-roader. There are a lot of threads of intakes, exhaust, chips, 30x10.5s, 20s, audio, mileage, etc. Ok, sure, there are quite a few threads talking a lot of technical stuff about off roading.............but where are the good ol' threads about stories out on the trail, the campfires, the time someone broke something on a rock, or pics of some nice flex off the beaten path? You know, the fun stuff!

So, PLEASE, Inspire Me Here!

I haven't been on the site that long, but I totally agree. There is nothing i love more than reading a good story bout offroading, and seeing some beautiful pictures to go along with it.

When I went out today, I was kicking myself so hard for not spending the extra 15 mins to go out of my way to my parents house to pic up my digital camera, there were a ton of pictures that would of been great, some where my rear end was pointing straight up, with the wheel like 2 feet in the air, some times where my front end was a few feet off ground.

For now on wherever I go i'm gonna make sure I got my camera.

Inspiration?

Man there is inspiration all over this site! If you haven't read the postings, that Gjarrett has posted, that would be a great place to start, he has got some great stories and awesome pics, all done in a moderately built ex. His write-ups are inspiration enough for me.

Robb, I know what you're saying, I like those threads too. Seems like there hasn't been much in the way of trips on the board lately. As membership here grows, a smaller and smaller percentage actually GO OFF ROAD!
How 'bout you? Why don't you get out there with some friends, and then write about it?????
I'll be doing my part this coming weekend.

Personally, I think a picture is worth a thousand words and would rather look through an album. That's just me though.

I do like short write-ups and also explanations of the pictures and stories that didn't get photo'ed.

Rick, I was one of the 366 that check out your post, now living in the south, I enjoy all the write ups posted from those out west. I am from northern cali. and miss that type of terrain, all we have down here is cotton feilds Did you read my thread about a book?

I know I didn't respond to the SEMA pictures thread because the pictures were too herd to see on my computer My monitor is showing the pictures really dark, as it is on it way out (I think) Every pic I want to look at, I have to save to photoshop, and brighten it.

Here is a pic from on top of a a lovely hill, at the end of a trail that we took my dads X down.....It was the last "off roading" I have done in awhile, and it was lame, but it wasn't on the road...he he

Crankcase go into your display settings and adjust your gamma contols. That has helped out a lot of folks monitors that I have worked on.

Hopefully I,ll get some more pic.s now that I got a scanner, digi cam. not in the budget. Ill update some of the crappy scans for sure. I usually leave my old manual Pentax in the truck but of coarse during a short mud trail run last week I look for it and its not there ( on work bench in garage) .
So ya lets get back to the basics, Im guilty of not posting stuff like NICE or WOW and just posting if I can give some assistance I guess I never thoght how much people like those comments about thier pic.s Will try to do better in future.

Ive got plenty of stories about 4wheeling i share a few that are memorable.

In my opinion Free wheeling is the best wheeling. There is a place near me called paragon where you can spend 35 bucks and they got some of the best trails around but to me nothing beats just going out and cruising around trails in the woods. Back in the beginning of the summer me a couple friend in 2 truck took a ride up to Rockaway NJ to check out some of the trails up there. We went up on a friday night to check some of the stuff out and we didnt find much but on one trail we meet "Bob". Bob was a middle aged guy with his wife in his mid 30s and he offered to take us on some trails. So we followed Bob down a pretty easy trail and it was a good time. We went home and came back the next day on our own. 4 of us in two trucks where just cruising around on the trails just having a good time, climbing hills that we found playing around in the mud a bit. we stopped for lunch by a swamp and made sandwiches. We went in search of some harder trails we heard about and while we're crusing down the highway we see Bob's truck at a hot dog stand so we swing in and say hi. He offers to take us out on some harder stuff and we go out on this trail and it wasnt to hard but it was a bit of a challenge. This trail led out to a campsite at lake that was one of the cleanest ive ever seen in jersey. It was such a beautiful area. To me one of the best things about 4wheeling is how just about everyone i meet is a really nice person and theyre more than willing to help you out. I also like going out with my friends and exploring trails. I was out with Dasfrem And Lizardtrac (members of the board) and we where testing out what his locker could do and i was playing around in 2lo. my 4wd is currently out of order but we just made a day of climbing hills, playing in the mud and just riding around on the local trails. To me the friends you make while out one the trail makes 4wheeling one of the most rewarding things for me.

here's a story for ya. We went out wheeling tonight in our normal spot. Lots of mud and some nice hill climbs not real techinical though. Got a couple spots I won't take the X through. Anyway, we just got done doing one of the tougher stream crossings, it's been raining alot here so it was pretty deep. Had the fogs and half of the headlights under going in. Well we stop in a clearing on the other side to smoke a cig and decie which trail were heading on next when we see lights overhead. All of a sudden a big 'ol heliocopter goes overhead spotlighting us. We kill the lights and he comes back around again. So we decide it's time to get out of there. We make it to the trail head and start heading to the car wash when a couple of state troopers go flying past us and turn on the road that leads back to the trails. Went right by us though...weird. The really werid part was it wasn't a state police copter it was a big military dual rotor one. All the big shot government people fly right over Frederick on the way to Camp David so our best guess was that someone was going up there and they were making sure the route was clear or something. I dunno. Also this was the first time wheeling since I put the shackles/TT on. Alot stiffer ride off road but much better clearence. Shackles did pick up alot of mud and stuff since they hang down so long in the back.
