can i put a transfer case on my 4x2 a4ld?

hey guys i just got my 4x2 a4ld rebuilt. now i am doing a 4x4 conversion and i want to make sure i can use my transmission. if i just take the tailshaft housing off my 4x2 and put the 4x4 coupler to mate it to the transfer case will that work? or is the whole tailshaft diferent? thanks for the help

You need to change the extension housing and the output shaft. In other words, you may want to rebuild your A4LD while your in there.
 






I am unclear whether the 2WD used a different output shaft from the 4WD.. I'm inclined to think they were the same... and the only difference was the 2wd had a different housing with a seal and the 4WD had one that mated to the transfer case. I'll check on that.
 






please let em know i know the manual you have to change the tail shaft on a manual but do you have to on an auto? like i said it was just rebuilt so i dont want to go back through it.
