Hello all;

Local O'Reilly's said I'd have to add some kind of electronic gizmo in order to change my headlights and/or tail lights to LED. Is that true, or can I just install LED head/tail lights and be done with it?

I hate any more electric work than putting in a bulb, applying grease to battery terminals, or changing a fuse.

Thank you

You will have to change the flasher to an led compatible one, not a big deal otherwise you will get hyper flash

Also with all led bulbs you may get some dim lights in the tails because the system was designed for halogen bulbs and it expecting a certain amount of “draw”
some led bulbs have ballasts built in order to pull additional current so the system is happy.

On side note, I just popped some of these in my dome / map light sockets yesterday and they're great, super bright - warm light too, not usual hideous bug-zapper blue hue ones... plug and play.....10 for $10 ..LINK

"Change the flasher". By "flasher" do you mean the button I push to make the hazard lights start flashing?

Thank you.

No I mean there is a flasher relay under your dash and it was not designed for use with led turn bulbs so the signals will flash very quickly (system thinks a bulb is out)

The led compatible flasher is a relay you replace the old one with

Driveway!? In Alaska? Rocky Mountains?

What's the truck? Do I see TTB underneath?

North Idaho 60 miles from Canada border
We
Live off the grid, my entire truck shop and homestead is solar/diesel powered
Our driveway is 2 miles of old logging road at the base of a mountain along a river

The bii has a 5.0 and yes that is a modified cut and turned Dana 35 ttb 4.10 w arb locker

She’s my “wip” I’ve been driving for 25+ years

Awesome. Everything you said. North Idaho. Off grid solar powerful enough for a vehicle workshop. 2 mile, logging road driveway. And probably a few of Eugene Stoner's and John Browning's babies. Maybe even Mikhail's baby, too, eh?

Idaho's on my travel list. Retire in 3 years. Buy a semi-built, 4x4 truck, off-road capable, with a well insulated, slide in camper with inside tanks (no freezing) and cassette toilet. AZ to UT to Yellowstone to Glacier to ID (The Bob, Craters of the Moon) to BC to Yukon to AK. Except for Canada, somewhere in there is a log cabin in the mountains with my name on it.

Sounds like heaven to me! We are back here
Building our dream that is for sure!!!
