I want to put a new Traction-Lok rear diff into my '91 Explorer. Generally, limited slips are good for about 5 years tops before they stop limiting slip what so ever, so 16 years is a bit of a stretch. With the 3.73 ring and pinion, can I order a new Traction-Lok diff from a Ford dealership? If not, I'm considering going with a cable actuated Ox Locker, but I'd like my Explorer to remain as stock as possible (it's fun to say you hit an obstacle successfully in a bone stock Explorer!).

You can probably order a new differential but this would be very costly as it would also require you to set up the ring and pinion gears all over again because the deck plane of the carrier wont necessarily by the same as the old one.

A more logical solution would be to buy a rebuild kit for the LSD which comes with new clutch plates -- $70 + s/h from SummitRacing: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=400070+305389&autoview=sku
