I want to remove the front pumkin for a little while so i can set up gears for it. But, i still want to have my truck. will it damage the hubs not having the stubshafts in the spindles? i was thinking of i could unbolting the spindles and bolt in a sheet of wax paper behind it to keep the dirt/grime out?

I think as long as you have manual hubs it shouldnt be a problem. Just as long as the half shafts from the spindle arent turning.

No you should not drive a TTB truck w/o the diff!!

The diff is a structural part of the drivers side beam

is it really?

so the pumkin supports weight from the vehical and shock from the road?

the d side beam is designed to use the pumkin as part of the beam, yes it makes the beam stringer so it can take the abuse.

DeJello has been driving his all over America for about 1 year with no front diff.

May not be as safe but nothing has happened to his yet.

i need it out for a week at the longest to set gears up in the pumpkin.

has Dejello put his back in yet?

Nope. He is just leaving it out now that he is going to a solid dana 44.

what about on my truck?

any reason i can't just take it out? its already half broken out (no longer attached on passenger side)

drew- you can't unless you use your CV's as cups. I still got my bare case in the garage ;)

cv's as cups?

i think what you are saying is what i've already done. the cv's are gone and all i'm using is the very outter part to hold the hub together.

i'm asking about removing the rest of the stuff.

Oh yeah if you already have the cups than go ahead and take everything else out.

Yes, three bolts hold it in, plus the three shafts. Don't forget the vent tube, clipped to the left shock mount.

So i hate to sound like a Re-re, but i did end up doing this :p

I guess i didnt do any damage, i ran with the front pumpkin off for a couple weeks while i tinkered around with the gears and this aussie locker.

It went back on no problem haha, works like when i took it off. haha

I did drive in the rain once or twice  oops. And i didnt abuse it, so that might of had something to do with it. But thats not to say all that time off from the abuse isnt being made up for! haha But it did kinda scare me not having that 'Stringer bolt' in there, and that the hubs were wide open to the world.
