OK........ after seeing the rave reviews about the BFG A/T KO's 31x10.5x15. I decided to get me a set, and when I went to (not mentioning any names---> Trio Tire) the closest tire store, were my older brother used to work. They refused to sell me anything other than what the stock tire size was!!!!!!!!!! His reasons were that they didn't want to be liable for anything that could happen to the vehicle as a result of altering the stock set up because of all the crap that has been going on w/Ford. I even asked him if I buy the tires some where else would u just mount them...........NO!

Then I went to National Tire & Battery (NTB) and he told me that he would sell me the tires......BUT.....he would not mount them on the truck for me. I would have to bring just the rims to him and then I would have to mount them myself do to the same reasons.

OK.....does anyone know where I can get them done in Southern Jersey @ a reasonable price? I was qouted $113-$135 (just tires) but I would have to bring them the rims only? I may have to go this route, so does the internet have cheaper prices for these tires.....and if so where??

I'm not surprised you're getting grief about putting those tires on your Explorer. Tire guys are afraid of Explorers now or something. It'll probably be easier to just take them the rims and be done with it.

As for the prices, they should all be the SAME price no matter where you go. BFGoodrich sets the price. The shops charging a different amount than what BFG says can lose their licenses to sell BFG tires. With that, buying off of the internet will probably cost you more since you'll have to pay shipping charges.

It's worth all the BS you have to put up with once you get the tires. They are great! As a matter of fact, I've never gotten stuck because they didn't give me enough grip. (all the times I've got stuck is from lifting 2 wheels or setting it on the frame, neither of which is the tire's fault)

That sucks that you're having that hard of the time getting tires. You may want to try SEARS. I bought mine there, granted mine are the factory size, but they would be worth a try. Of corse that all depends on how close the nearest SEARS is. That's all I got.

I say sears or discount tire. both of them did a larger tire size with no hassle! Good luck man

Sears mounted my 31's on my X with out batting an eyelash. Their only comment was 'you know this will mess up your speedometer'. Noooooo kidding!!

Yeah Definitely Sears! Bring your truck there, and they have never said anything to me. The sears here charges $112 a tire for a 31X10.5

Discount tires had no problems test fitting my 32" tires and then installing a set of four when they got the ones I wanted in stock. Both Sam's Club and Costco will not install tires other than the factory size on an Explorer as well. They received a letter from Ford preventing them from doing it. This was in June 2000 when i ran into it at my local Costco, a couple of months before the Firestone problems hit the news. I couldn't even get Costco to install my factory size 255 70R16 tires since their book had a mis-print and had it listed as a 255 70R15 instead of a 16" tire. The tire manager couldn't find a 255 70R16 tire listed in his book for a '97 so he wouldn't mount them. When I told him that they were the factory tires, he tried telling me that my dealer must have switched the tires for a larger size. I offered to let him look at my sticker on my door jamb, but he was too busy to walk outside. I took their price if I could have bought them down to Discount Tires and had no problems there.

i had previously bought tires at walmart anf had no problem and recentyl sears. in fact the guy that was installign them is an explorer owner and his buddy had one so he called them over and were checking out my ex. if have 32's bfg at ko now.
just bite the bullet. society is makign the ex an underdog but thats alright we know whose boss.

I'm pretty sure Discount Tire will put them on for you, they just write on your bill that they are not responsible for any damages. They gave me a little grief about putting two tires on at one time instead of four (I have a 4x4) because of the differential. Good luck

You wanna hear something really funny?????

I was at Tire Rack in Indiana and my Dad always does business with them. Well, We got there and they would not install the tires on my explorer. They said they could only put on P235/75R15 on my truck. Well, at that time i had already upgraded to 16" Sport Trac rims with P255/70R16 tires on it. They told me there was noting they could do except install P235/75R15 tires. I don;t know how the h3ll they figured they would get 15" tires on 16" rims, but anyway..they sold us the tires and installed a tire on the spare rim since it wasn't connected to the truck, but the other four we had to drive down the road to discount tire.

I called Sears and they said that they would do it after careful consideration.............Finally! They are charging me $559.95 to do it, which is the going rate because of BFGs price lock.

Thanks for the info everyone, I Love this place!!!

Next installing the warrior 153 shackles, and doing the TTs.

Tire Rack (on Monday) refused to sell me 31x10.5-15 Goodyear MT/R's for my Explorer.

I was told that Ford put out an authorized list of fitments, and was transferring ALL liability for any future lawsuits to Tire Rack if Tire Rack installed unauthorized fitments and the customer later sued Ford.

F__king lawyers have really screwed things up for us all.

So I bought through my local Big-O. It only cost about an extra $30 after installation for 4 tires. I should get them put on today.

How much did Big O charge you? What size tires were they?

$158 each plus the usual mounting, tax, etc. for 31x10.5x15 MT/R's.

Tire Rack has them for $126 plus shipping, which, for me, works out to $143, so I was paying a premium.

No biggie. I talked with the manager, and I told him I wanted a tire guy for the long haul, and didn't want to beat up a different installer for every tire service I get on my vehicles. I'm hoping this shop works out well for me in the long run.

By the way, they look GREAT! Zero rub on a '97 XLT (4.0 SOHC, 4WD) with no lift (in fact, I've got the old 5 year, 100K mile sag thing happening right now).

This lifted the car about an inch over the 235/75's, my daughters (4-1/2, 7) noticed it climbing in on the way to school. My youngest says "They sure look spikey, Daddy!".

:)

I got 31" BFG AT KO's installed on my 95 yesterday at Sear's Auto Center. They warned me that it wasn't the right size, gave me the rollover speech, and how bad Explorer's are, but in the end they installed the tires and I was out of there. They still gave me the warranty, lifetime balance and everything. Just gave me the warning first. Sam's was the same way. They would have had to order the tires, but they still said they would install them on an Explorer with no fuss. Wonder why only certain stores are taking that closed minded, idiotic stance on things.

America's Tire Co mounted mine and never gave me a hassle. They only thing they question was why I wasn't getting something more aggressive and why I was getting Michelins. I guess they have never used the LTX AT's before.

I never got **** about the swampers. that sucks......about them not mounting for you and whatnot
