I think it might be tough. They flex, and rocks would decimate it. The ones that are body colored are usually clear stock and painted on the backside with flexible bumper type automotive grade paint.

In other news- nice Ex!

I have seen people paint the clear ones. They usually do it on the inside, so it doesn't chip from rocks, etc. But I don't see why you couldn't paint the outside.

I'd rather not go through the trouble of dealing with chips and scrathes.

Thanks for the replies and the comment on my truck.

How do you like those H/T tires, Marc? I have the Cooper Discoverer ATR's, and those look like a little less aggressive summer-ish tire...

I think the tires are good. Cooper is a good name that I trust, but I have never driven with many other tires before, and no others on the explorer. These tires were on it when I recieved it. They are probably the same ride and feel as the Goodyear equivalent of these that usually came stock on latter 2nd generation explorers. I'm not sure if you've ever driven with those, but I was hoping to give you an idea of their fide.
I'd agree that they are less aggressive and can be used on light offroad trails, but I don't view them as summer tires. They are sufficient enough for winter use on the snow with some ice. I really wouldn't recommend much more than that. You can try but I'd expect you to have to do some digging. I hope that answers your questions.

that is exactaly what I did.

Thanks Marcus- that does actually help. I'm looking for something a little less agressive than the ones I have, and I love the Cooper's so I may check them out.

Thanks again!

Oh- and if Monmix speaks, paint guns listen... :D
