cant afford to keep running Royal purple! help!

Wally-Mart has Valvoline Synthetic for $18.98, a Motorcraft filter is about $4.
Change it every 5000 miles and it will be fine.

I also belong to www.BobIsTheOilGuy.com, where people like me get our used oil tested at a lab and post the results, and I can tell you that if you spend even less money and buy Motorcraft Blend or Havoline and run it 5000 miles the results are nearly identical to synthetic.

I use a K&N oil filter and it'll last "forever"...that's what I was told works best with Royal Purple... just filter the oil as it comes out with multiple coffee filters and its good to go and put the oil back in.

Today's oils are all far better than they used to be.

Concentrate on the quality of the air filter, then the oil and oil filter. If dirt gets through the air filter, all oils will turn black very fast. That applies to K&N filters, they filter the worst and the least of all. They flow great, but partly because they let through so much dirt.

I use Amsoil, the air filter, oil and oil filter. The oil looked clean(it is transparent) after 9500 miles, in my mail vehicle. You could go for a year or 35k miles, if you drive normally and use the best air filter and oil filter. I drive hard, so severe duty means less than half that mileage period.

An Amsoil oil change will cost you about $55 or so, that's all for one year. How is that more expensive than a bunch of 3000 mile $25 oil changes? The top synthetic oils lubricate and protect better, even after 25k miles. That's better for the engine, the environment, and your pocket book. Your choice.
