HELP!!! I have a 94 XLT with a premium sound system and I have no idea what I'm doing so please be patient.

I bought the $3 radio puller from Walmart and the unit will not move. I even removed the dash and the unit is just there like it's been superglued in place. Can anybody help with this one? Thanks!

I'm trying to install a KDC-MP8017 I bought the wiring harness from Circuit City but what they gave me came with two connectors one square black and the other long and grey. Do I splice both of these to the Kenwood wires that came with the reciever?

Also, do I still need a factory amp bypass connector or will this wiring harness take care of that?

Thanks for any help!!!!

Some times the clips that lock the radio into the dash get stuck behind the dash and the removal tools can not release it. Some time the only way to get them out is to break the face plate off to get at the clips. I have done this numerous times at work.

I just pulled mine out sunday night, and it was a pain. Just keep on trying, or like it was said, break the face of stock radio. If the tool isn't working, try using 2 little screwdrivers that will fit in the holes if nothing else. You should be able to feel the clips release. Good luck.

Thanks everybody!
I had to break the face plate off.......it was pain but at least it's finally out.

I bought a wiring harness at walmart for a '88 and up Ford and it wasn't even close so I bought the correct one at Circuit City.

They didn't have the amp bypass harness so I had to order it online. I will have to run it through the factory amp until that piece comes.

Not quite finished yet.....but it's coming along.
Thanks again!

i know i'm late, but i had the same problem when i installed my pioneer last week.

basically, with the puller key thingies, you put 'em in those four little holes, but DON'T insert them all the way, just insert them until you feel/hear the first "clicks" in each hole.

Bend the keys in, like this:

[headunit]

it unlocked just fine for me. And note, I finally figured that out after about two hours+ of tinkerking, and even trying to yank the dash off. I was definitely relieved when it came out so easy.

One more question?

I put the unit in last night and it sounds good. The MP3 player is a little slow while it is starting to play but it sounds good. It's hard to beat putting 75+ songs on one CD and I only stopped there because it was late.

If I bypass the amp, is it hard to get to? Do I have to remove the entire right side or is there a trick?

Thanks!

I got another question too.. do you have to get the bypass harness? I'd like to just do it myself, without having to wait for the harness.. I'm not concerned about the difficulty, etc., I just wanna do this without having to wait for the harness, plus save a few bucks.

Anybody got a walk-thru or something on how to do that, or is it basically self explanitory (just run the wires from the headunit to the speakers)?

thanks
